I guess we'll see about functional when we charge the system. I'm building a driver, not a GG show winner but I have trouble accepting that at times. Like many on this board, I am limited by both budget and ability, and it is hard to see the builds turned out by Delmo or n2billet and fall so short of their genius. I think about what they would do and check their old build threads before I start an upgrade, and then I have to come back to earth, so it sometimes takes me some time to "settle" on a plan and execute it. This A/C install seems to be taking forever so I'm happy to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.
Ive been following along on your build for a while an just never felt i needed to reply till now. I think everything you're doing looks great an i know exactly how you feel. I read some of these build on here an feel like such a lazy hack that i should sell my trucks an tools an find another hobby.

Keep on keeping on man, you're doing fine.

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

I appreciate the kind words... I'm just cautious because someday some of you may get to see the truck in person, the way I see it everyday. It's a good truck, don't take my self criticism wrong, but sometimes when it's ugly you gotta call it ugly. I'm hopeful that when/if our new house is built I can build a shop that will be conducive to learning to do more work on my own like smoothing the firewall and detailing under the hood. I really need to learn about paint and body work, I think that will give me the ability to make the truck much nicer with out breaking the bank. Or even worse having the thing get stuck in paint jail!

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

Buck, I just got to sit down and read threw your thread, I do think you are doing a great job and I love your truck. I'm working on a small/ 0 dollar budget too so I feel your pain. I want mine to turn out as sweet as yours and alot of the other awesome rides in here, but I know it will take time, patience and ALOT of learning before I have anything I can be proud of. Keep on Rocking Bud and I do hope to see your Beautiful truck in person one day.

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

i went back and i couldnt find anything on when you did your throttle pedal ?

A/C looks great but I agree.. everything looks so crammed in there. im wondering if perhaps not running all the vents would help since you wont have all that flex tubing going everywhere.. perhaps just running the outside ones and not the center vent. or not using the defrost ones.. i dunno..... i just helped a friend put in his Vintage Air system in a 72' Chevelle and it was the same thing.. seemed there was no space for anything.. and although you really cant see most if not all of it once its done,, i guess what bothers us is that we still know whats back there

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

Just don't think about it. It's all hidden back there. I've got the same thing in my 65 GTO. No room for anything, and a pain in the rear to put it all in. And thanks for the reminder...I've got to take all that out to rewire the car soon. Now I REALLY don't want to do it.

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

You know what is awesome?? It's when you actually connect the main power lead to the back of the alternator. Volts were kinda low on the quick test drive.

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

We were able to get the air inside the cab down to about 48° tonight! And then after removing the servicing hoses my dad (also my A/C guy) put the cap on the filler port as required. Meanwhile I cleaned up a little to get ready to take it for a ride. As I knelt in front of the truck I heard a hissing sound. After some investigation I found the cap on the filler port has a plunger in it that was depressing the high side shrader valve releasing the freon. I guess it was like that for a few minutes. I took it for a ride and the air only got to 60°, so tomorrow I will recharge the system. It has me pretty frustrated as I went out of my way to buy a scale to measure how much we put in (1.8 lbs) and now I have no idea how much is in there. Whatever, I'll throw some more in to get the pressures right and then let it eat. I'll tell you this... when serviced correctly it will freeze you out! Gonna be nice for the rest of the summer!

Thanks Juan!

Here's a pic after finally getting rid of the awful one-size-fits-all metal radiator hoses. Woo Hoo!! Still have to redo the cold air intake...
