Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Yeah bigd... 65 is probably where I'll run it most of the time...but I needed to be able to hit 70-75...I'm making a temporary paint booth inside the shop and needed those 70ish temps for painting..
Normally I paint outside weather permitting, but the weather just wont cooperate here lately

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Tell me bout it Rick...95deg shop temps are just around the corner...
I have a idea I want to try for shop cooling...I'm thinking about doing a geothermal cooling system..
I have a 6+acre pond next to the shop...we've been talking about running the water coils below ground level under the water...they'd be about 15ft or so below the surface...they say itll work...but we'll see

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Have you checked out a product like Portacool? It's basically a big radiator that circulates water through from a garden hose and a big fan blows over it. It's really simple and really effective

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Starting to sort out the fuel system..going with a summit 385 pump, Holley regulator with cleanable filter, and a cleanable prepump filter...now to find some where to mount it all...
I've got room in front of the transfercase that looks promising...off to lowes to find some rubberized clamps..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Well after I got the bumper and grill back from chrome, it made my other exterior chrome look really bad..
It looked good enough before ,with only minor defects in the chrome..nothing left to do but send the rest off for rechrome...well it came back today looking like brand new..maybe even better than it did in 1957..
They rechromed everything and did a 24k gold plating on the "IH" for the front emblem..I think it all turned out great..
The ribbed area behind the IH was painted black, so I'll have to paint that..it should make the IH really stand out against the chrome...also the words "drive" and "series" were black as well

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Got the front emblem painted and assembled...the black really makes the IH stand out...now to figure out how to get paint into the words drive and series...the narrow lettering is near impossible to sand..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Use one of these with a hypo 49 needle. Most sign suppliers will have them. This one is a hypo 25 and is too small a needle for paint to get thru.

Greg
With the hypo bottle, I usually only fill it about 1/2 full at most then squeeze all the excess air out. By doing that, you can hold it in the upside down position and it will not drip out until you gently squeeze it further. I have had good success with them

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Well I finally bit the bullet and painted the emblems...the chrome man said clean it and just paint it, another paint guy said just paint it, and the local body shop guy said just paint it...so dang it ,I just painted it..
Got some really fine brushes at the paint store but they didnt work to good..so the local guy said just slobber the paint all over the wording and before it dries wipe it off the chrome...well that worked great..
So I did 3 "applications " of painting and wiping...it worked out well..then I set them over my heater to help bake the enamel...I'm hollering calfrope on it...now I just need a painted truck to hang em on...

Those look good. You did it the way I would have. I didn't suggest anything because the bottle and needle sounded smarter.

Thaks Regan...
I looked for those needle bottles in town but couldnt find any...I get a little impatient at times..after talking to the local body man, he made it sound simple...just paint and wipe...I also tend to overthink things at times...
