Re: My 1965 build thread

How would you get it to line up that way? Couldn't you just tape it before drilling?

One reason I haven't drilled yet is because I don't have any mouldings. I'm waiting till I get everything bolted down (fenders, cab, bed) Then do alot of measureing. I can reference off of the bed and cab. I'll then pull a straight line from those then drill. Then rub some paint on the bare metal and mount. It will be pretty much the last thing that I do.

Re: My 1965 build thread

Update on the Orange Miata I painted at the first of the year. He has it all back together for the most part.

Had to repair a little uh oh.

Door and cab with a little natural light (cloudy)on it.

Thanks Scott, I think i'm getting better.

Laid out the fine line tape for the top color.

Got it bagged and ready for paint. I wanted to paint it tonight, but I'm afraid the air compressor would disturb the neighbors. So hopefully I can get it painted in the a.m.. The best time to paint if you don't have a booth is in the a.m.. The wind is calm and the bugs are gone.

I'm always excited when color goes on. And yes that is the plan for the side trim.

I forgot to mention that Greg65 came by today. It's the first time we met. He picked up a part and we spent a good hour chewing the fat. It's always cool meeting other members. Thanks Greg!!

Re: My 1965 build thread

Ouch man that sucks, at least its fixable.. most of the time that is the best thing to do is make it run even more and add a ton of material and color sand it right out. I cant wait to see it all put together

Re: My 1965 build thread

correct me if I'm wrong...but the run is in the clear, so no sanding in the metallic paint..

Re: My 1965 build thread

Yeah Joe your right it is in the clear so you can just take like 1500 grit and water and sand over the run to blend it in. Just take your time and dont go through the clear to the paint... that sucks

Scott, do you ever wipe a thin coat of putty (I use evercoat 416) over the run then sand the run out? It helps me from going thru the adjacent clear around the run. It works well. It also serves as a guide of how much further you have too sand. It doesn't harm the clear, or hasn't with me yet. I've tried it a few times after our painter showed me the trick. When I do it I will take pics of the process.
