Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I made an engine hoist plate today out of 1/4". I'm going to have to get new engine mounts, because I'm going to buy the NoLimit rack and pinion conversion and in order for it to work I have to mount the engine in the rear holes. Once I get the mounts and rack worked out I can figure the headers out and make sure everything has clearance.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I cut the old trans member out today. I should have done it long ago but didn't know where this project would end up so I left it. No need for it now.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I stabbed the engine and trans back in to figure out the engine mounts. I'm going to a 4x4 shop tomorrow to see if they'll bend me a couple 1 1/2" chromoly 90's so I can fab them up myself. After I get the mounts worked out I'll get to the drive shaft, rack and pinion headers and fire wall.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I was going to make my own mounts also. Looks easy enough.

I'm checkin, but I don't know what it is. You could have taken the plastic off or is that part of the surprise?

The infamous door checks! For a while I thought our trucks came with a crease in the door, because every one I saw looked the same. Now I know the wind snaps them like twigs.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I welded up some temporary engine mounts to position the engine and fab some new mounts out of some dom tubing. I've been waiting for parts to make sure it's in the right spot before I go any further. I still need the fron accessory drive but I got the No Limit rack and pinion conversion today. I only had about two hours so I'm half way through it. There have been a few things that need modification but all in all it's going pretty well. I'm going to have to figure out what to do about my sway bar because the tie rod ends need to be in the same place and that just doesn't work. More on Friday.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I got the rest of the rack hooked up loosely and the Air Ride sway bar is not going to work. I think what I'm going to do is either get longer links to raise it up over the tie rod ends or cut the mount off the end of the sway bar and make a new one. I'll try shimming the link up first to see if I get enough clearance. If not I'll make a new bar end.

I have no experience with steering linkage but I don't think the angle of the u-joint is going to meet up with my stock steering shaft. I know I need one more u-joint on the shaft up by the fire wall but I don't think they'll line up. I'll have to do some research.

Pay no attention to the mock up pipe engine mounts. I had some .120 wall dom tubing bent for some new ones but I'm waiting to get the front accessory drive before I weld them up.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

Hope this helps.

BTW, greg if you have 4 independent bags with 4 switches, you won't even need a away bar.

I totally feel for you.
I too have had a few moments of harsh realization in regards to some of the stuff I am doing to my build....

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I haven't figured out the steering joint situation yet, but I did get the engine mounts finished. The reason for making my own was to offset the driver's side mount to the rear for clearance of the steering shaft bushing coming through the frame from the rack. I canibalized the CPP mounts for the tube that the Energy Suspension mounts to with a 1/2" bolt. Centered. Full bubble. Burn it in.
