Here's one I found on Facebook. It may not be to your liking but I think it's cool.

That would be cooler if it was still a fire truck. Now it's just a cool slammed "what do we do with the rest of it" truck.

Re: GM Semis

I'd put a 5th wheel plate on it and pull a camp trailer with it. I think it'd be cool seeing it pulling a trailer.

Re: GM Semis

it has been done before but you have to watch the loadrating on those low tires as there meant for cars not heavily loaded trucks
an option would be to put normal truck tires and 16 inch rims on the inner wheels at the back to take the load and have the outers for show

Re: GM Semis

A 5th wheel platter would be cool. I'd still put a floor with low sides rounded down at the rear with running boards and wrap-around bumper to mimmick a pumper body. To me it's incomplete, and maybe it actually is. Do you know anything about it?

Re: GM Semis

i actully was considering there should be a pumper body too for that truck , either that or a tank with hookups of some sort

Re: GM Semis

Great thread. Love the pictures. Especially love the commentary about sweatpants and flip-flops. Where on earth did the truckers go? I've been driving for a living for over 20 years, and the self-reliance ingrained in me by the old-school drivers I learned from is rarely present in my co-workers.

I learned to drive truck the real way, on the job, in a '55 KW with a 5 and 4, and a Cummins 220. With 44,000 pounds of Alfalfa, the old dog would climb the Coast Mountains between Tillamook and Aloha, Oregon at around 10 mph. And heaven help you if you missed a shift...

On the way down the mountains, one tended to make up a little lost time.

Flash forward 25 years, and I haul reefers over the Cascades from Portland to Central, OR in a stretched Freightliner Century with a 14L Detroit that we'll call "modified" and a 13-speed behind it. The thing really moves. That aside, I train new-hires, and it's downright frustrating.

Despite being a college graduate, I still drive for a living because I am left alone.

Sadly, the old ways and the old days are ending, and I fear for our economy. Historically, trucking attracts independent people. You don't do the job to get rich. You do it because you can't stand somebody breathing down your neck. And when technology threatens to do that very thing, I have to wonder who will move tomorrow's freight?

Without men and women who take pride in driving truck well and properly, the highways will become that much more dangerous. Flip-flops and sweatpants are incongruent with that ethic, as are Qual-Comms, Black-boxes, etc, etc, etc...

Semi-trucks are murder-weapons when handled improperly, and in my experience, those who embrace the glut of government regulations are not willing to take responsibilty for getting the job done, nor do they have any interest in the art of safely handling their truck. And the results are scary and best, and deadly at worst.

I've been out of driving for a living for a long while now, but I can't believe some of the stories I hear.

Do you drive for a company or are you an O/O?

Re: GM Semis

whell lets say the same thing happening here with camera's over the roads collecting licenceplates numbers of the cars passing under it , at this moment its to collect data on average speed along a certan length of road ( the speedingticket is in the mail without a cop in sight sortah thing) they allso see if the car passing has payed roadtax , has had a thechnical inspection and all that
people are trying to get it to stop cause they know the next thing will be added roadtax for distance covered and toll for certan roads , they use the privacy thing for that but dont have a lot of succes

Re: GM Semis

I drove for a living for a while. And Oregoon, you're right. Out on the road without someone breathing down your neck. I also learned from some good teachers. They told us that anyone can run the interstates, but it takes a driver to run the back roads, so we learned on some real goat paths. Makes you a better driver.

Re: GM Semis

I truly didn't mean to open a political discussion. They say all life is politics, but I'd like to believe there is a reprieve...

We all love trucks and love to drive them--everything from 1/2 tons to Oversize Loads.

Let's see some more photos, and if we take anything from this thread, give semi trucks a lot of room and keep the shiny side up!

Sweatpants, flip-flops, and sitting so low they can't see to drive safely (IMO)...but it's kewl (not IMO). Don't leave out the shifters to the sealing. Pictures, I want pictures...of GM semis like the title says. There's another thread for straight trucks and non-GMs
