Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Shooting for this weekend.
We fired the engine this week, just for 30 seconds or so...found a few issues with leaking lines and some cracked fittings. All in all, very minor probs that were quickly remedied...no major issues that would hold us from setting the cab on the chassis. We sourced some billet handles from LS-Fab out of Canada...really like the fit and finish of those. We fit the visor to the cab...that was one of the pieces that we were anxious to see back on the cab...I'm digging it! Still cut and buffing on the hood...couple more hours on that and it goes on the cab before fitting everything onto the chassis.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks! We've been working on the blazer for a couple years now...BBC, T400, NP205, D60/14B, 37s on 20s, Vintage Air, Dakota Digital...it's up next for paint.
Quote:
Scott finished the hood up and we spent most of the afternoon getting it fit right. A few shims here and there and a bit of tweaking on the hinges finally got it lined up. We really like the hinges, light touch up and down, it'll hold any position we leave it at, and it opens up pretty high.

That is always a big relief when the body is back on the chassis. Looking really nice. I bet you are liking it being in one piece. Steve

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Dropped the radiator back in...pretty damn tight fit. The back lip of the latch plate/radiator cover locks it all in place.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks lower50's! We like the flow (look) of a fender well header...opens up a lot of space between the frame rails too.
Thanks man! Yea, it's a little tall...lots more up and down to work on it.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
We've been working through the little things for a bit...ran all the brake lines, fuel lines, cabling, and started wiring. We had to fit a few pieces after cab on chassis...those parts are painted and on. Getting closer but I'm going slow...trying not scratch **** up!
11 years between the before and after...

Amazing transformation! Sorry if you already posted this, but where did you get the bumper/grill guard?

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
I made it. Original bumper turned upside down with the resulting upper gap filled in to match the contour of the cab...then a little torch, grind, weld!

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
nice job on the bumper/grille guard. well, the whole thing looks amazing but the bumper is what the guy on front is gonna see. haha. a little sticker that says "say yer prayers rabbit" would be cool up there at rear view mirror height. lol.

Man, I have to say it looks too nice to use. You might as well get that first scratch in while Scott is gone.

Still working through lots of little things, but making progress. Cables and linkages for the PTO/pump controls are done, door seals, inner door panels, and exterior mirrors are on. We collaborated with Mike's Billet Mirrors out of TX to get these custom mirrors made...took a couple months due to Covid and weather, but we're really digging them!
