Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Wow well the 04 looks like a great truck but not sure I would sell the little truck, if I had an opportunity to get a better tow rig I would make the C10 my "fun" truck since it's setup for towing right now. But thats just me, good luck with the new rig.

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Kinda depressing, but I have been thinking about doing the same for a gmt800 Z71. The 04 looks nice!

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Keith: Wow, read most of your thread...then jumped to last few pages to see you sold the Red truck, and got a 2004 CC.
Thanks for all the historical perspective on GM. Very enlightening! We have something in common...2004 CC, except mine is the 8.1L Big Block. I ordered from factory and it was my daily driver until 2011, and has 110k miles currently. It's in garage and I'm doing some rust repair. Hope that Duramax is treating you well. Doug

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Wow, didn't see that comin. Read through the whole thread. Really enjoyed all of the background. Your knowledge is helpful and experience enviable. I can only speak for myself but I think we got enchanted with your little red truck as a part of the story. A lot of the trucks in here are daily drivers, but many of us also have totally unnecessary trucks, just because we like them. It sounds like little red was viewed from a practical point of view (already had a coupla sweet Pontiacs, right?) and off she went to make way for the newer model. I'm pretty sentimental tho, so you got me by surprise with that one.

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Thanks, guys -
Yes - Red still stops by for a visit every so often and I always peek in the garage when I'm at my brother in law's house (just to make sure everything is still ok). K

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Thanks for sharing Keith!
I am only on page one, but I will read all 22 pages as I am sure you have answered my question. As a long time Chevy Corvette/truck owner (50+ years) I may need some help on a few items. Thanks for your knowledge

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Hi Keith, We've spoke a few times but it's been awhile. Hope your good. Hate to see you sold the little red truck but it's great you kept it close. I know the term rare doesn't fit these trucks because they built so many, but I have one that I just haven't seen many of. Maybe you could tell me if it's a bit unusual. It's a 1989 one ton cab and chassis. Silverado package, 454 carburated , auto, with quite a few options. Factory black with burgundy interior. I have only seen one or two that were Silverados, most are Custom Deluxes. Thanks, Randy

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Thanks guys -
rwhit - I'd have to agree. Since most cab/chassis were "work trucks" they tended to be the base trim level. The exception would be trucks that were ordered or built for GM engineering...since the General was paying we tended to load 'em up.

So from what you said I assume some local Rancher must have ordered it. Standard was the 350TBI but it came with the 454 carb. Some guys have said it would have had TBI so someone changed it but that's not the case it came this way. I'm currently freshening the old truck up a bit and will try and do a progress post soon. Thanks for the reply Randy

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Hilux, That looks like a good one and appears to be a K series. Good ones are hard to find because they were worked hard. I hunted for two years before I found mine. I will start a thread on my Cab and Chassis truck so folks can weigh in. I don't want to step on Keith's post. It's so cool to have him here with all his knowledge.

I would like to hear more stories , it's not everyday there is someone who actually built the vehicles we like so much .

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
A little off topic, but most heavier trucks were pretty plain too. Of course they were almost all work trucks. However, there was one around here, C60, that was a Silverado and was loaded to the gills. Windows, locks, a/c, tach, carpet, buckets (both Bostrom seats) etc etc. Unfortunately, the local vandals got to it and burned the cab. The truck was scrapped... I believe the truck was ordered new by the first owner, but since the truck and owner have passed, no way to verify now.
