Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes

I had all the new parts staged and a reach lift and a fork lift.
Remove the bed. Remove the tandem suspension. Set the new bed on. Center the new front suspension under the new trailer bed. Remove the bed. Install the new front suspension in the rear. Shorten the brake lines. Reverse the rear hubs for single wheels. Cut the excess frame off the back. Install bumperetts. Install the bed. Bled the brakes. Install the super singles. Drive it away in front drive till I got the rear driveshaft shortened or lengthend. I don't remember. 15 hr. days. It was something I had to do.

Them big yellow tools really help with a job like that.
At first I thought this was you but definitely two different trucks. I like the trailer box & rear fender wells on yours better.

The 5 ton is just too big with a lame Cummins and an auto. It does have the bobbed drop side bed though.
I would rather have an LMTV than either.

This is one of the nicest looking 80-85 Ford F250 4wds I've seen. A real classic look with a real 2-tone paint job... meaning actually has chrome trim as if 2-tone was part of the design. This truck sits at a branch of my bank and is owned by a pretty little gal who is a teller there. It's a 7.3 also.

That truck in that year would have been a 6.9l unless it's been swapped and going by the windshield it would be the IDI 7.3l. Nice truck I had an '82 back in '86, also two tone.

I actually just replaced a 300 in an 85 f150 4x4 over the last couple weeks. That 300 is an amazing engine especially for a ford. They actually remind me a lot of the Industrial engines I build. The thing I hate the most about this generation of ford is the twin torsion beam front axle that some of them had. They really don’t look too bad, but that axle is not my favorite. I will say after doing that engine swap I fell in love with the mother GM of old all over again. My Chevy is easier to work on.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes

I forgot about the 6.9 being the early displacement, so it probably does have one. I remember when the '80s came out and they had TTB. I never thought the twin I-beam was a good idea and they went even farther in the wrong direction with adding a live axle and heavy differential bouncing up and down. That's when you really started seeing the F350 4wds (since Ford can't seem to give the 4wd trucks their own designation ) being bought.

A couple nice looking Fords

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes

I posted several of my non-GM 4x4's back on page 24. I have since picked up some additional "other makes" 4x4's. I still love my GM trucks but I felt I needed to expand my horizons and learn about other makes. Besides that, I take pride in procuring vehicles before they hit the uptick in value so by just having a barn to store them in I'm at least breaking even on the investment. First off is a (gasp) Toyota. 1985 4x4 fuel injected SR5 short box. All original but needed some attention here and there. I cleaned up the paint, added new decals, and replaced a cracked exhaust manifold. 5 speed and AC blows cold. I had it shipped here from So Cal 3-4 years ago. It's fun to drive.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes

'87 (if I remember correctly) Dodge W150. Purchased this in Vancouver, Washington in 2017 or 2018. I was actually out there so I could look at it in person. Swapped in 360 (originally 318) that was relatively high HP build but ran like crap. The paint needed some help, along with other odds and ends. I put a quadrajet back on it as that's what I know and believe it or not Dodge used Quadrajets in the 80's. It's not perfect by any stretch, still needs work (everything I own does), but it does well at the dunes. I think this platform is good looking and is pretty affordable still.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes

Last one for tonight. I'm definitely not into the "Jeep thing" but I do respect them. As shown in my posts on page 24 I have an '86CJ7. Gotta admit, they are fun to drive in the summer. With that, I have always liked Jeep Scramblers but at this point it seems that well has dried up. They are either rusty or more money than I want to spend on an old CJ. I always felt the 3 year run of Jeep LJ's in the mid-2000's was a good looking Jeep and that with it's limited production should be collectible. I picked this one up in Nebraska in I'd say 2016 or so. Flew in and drove it home without a license plate the whole way. Funny thing is I had no issue until I had just entered MI (my home state) where I got pulled over. No issue as you have like 2-3 days grace after you buy something. Anyways, it's a 2005, 4.0, 6-speed manual, with around 70K miles. One of the few "trucks" my wife will drive comfortably. More to come....
