This looks like a 4l60, is it the same for the 4l80? My 80 doesnt have the cooler fittings on top of one another, thats why I am asking.

He has a passion for his truck that comes from a rich history with it. I am sure that is what motivated him to drill out all the spot welds. Cause it sure wasn't for the enjoyment of drilling...I'd hope.
Dennis, lets see the pictures man!

Do you need some advice about good steaks to grill?
Looks like good progress man, now you can make good use of those Lamborfeeti's you have Mr. Flinstone! Get a face shield too, then you don't have to wrinkle up that face of yours when you are grinding.

I have to admit, I kinda laughed at the wrinkled face too! It just always looks funny when people do that. Again, great work.

My local transmission shop got them for me. Be advised they are not national pipe taper thread. You can crack your transmission if you install NPT too tight. Transmission cooler line fittings on these newer transmissions are NPST national pipe straight thread. My fittings are to inverted flare so I can try to use my original cooler lines.

If you are going AN fittings they make an adapter to go from the factory quick disconnect to the AN Or they also make AN to NPST.

Fittings which are linked to in my swap thread!!

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Yes mine is a 4L60 but a 4L80 will attach the same but I believe to be a different part number.

If you go to the first link in my post above (it takes a little searching though) compnine. Click on the left panel where it says chevy light truck. Then click the year that the transmission is for. Then go through until you see a picture of a transmission. You will look at a bunch of additional pictures until you see one with a picture of a dipstick and then click on that picture. Below that picture will be a list with all the part numbers.

You can then just take that part number to a dealer, GMparts direct, bygmpartsworldwide, or ask for one at your local pick and pull. The tube only lists for about $20. Its the dipstick that is expensive but they are the locking type with the red cap/lever.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

today i have to get some weld through primer, seam sealer, and por15 to coat the inside rocker panel just in case. hope the xmember gets here today so i can get that on. and maybe start cleaning and grinding the fire wall down to weld that seam. my goal is to have everything ready on the fire wall and get painted by the 1st. then off to the line x place for the bottom of the cab. then set her on!

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

thanks for all the great comments guys!

i need some help though... i went to napa yesterday in search of a 3/8 npt coolant sensor. all they have listed is the 1/2. i honestly think the 1/2" is too big because of the flange on the exhaust manifold and i dont want to use the adaptor. they did find a 3/8 sensor but the ohms at 220* is different than the stock one. i didnt get it because i want the gauges to be a direct replacement(autometer). what 3/8" sensor should i go with? any vehicle years or part #'s?

ive been just gathering supplies and had to order the extended floor pan from captkaos since the 1st one i got is too small. still waiting on the back ordered twist-tite high psi hose from summit and the trans x member. need to order a radiator( natural finish, inlet/outlet on pass. side, with e-fans and trans cooler) order the s&p headers, and send the harness out. $$'s going to start flying...

AIRTEX Part #1T1008, or Standard Motor Products #TS76T. 1979 - 1995. Which is OK since you will be running a 90-91 cluster anyhow.

Oh wait, I just re-read and saw that you will be using Autometer gauges? Then use whatever sender comes with the gauges.
