Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

wow! been almost 7 months...
thanks for the comments dale!
sadly my crew ain't getting paint this yr...i was sooooo close. had almost 11 g's saved for it, but went and blew almost 9k of it for a new quad for my son last apr....so as a consolation prize, took the rest of the money and decided to do some mechanical to the crew...as it has a 10" lift, i finally after all these yrs with the push-pull steering, had my steering wheel cranked hard over in some ruts off road and the truck was still goin' strait
just finishing up a cross-over steering on it and added some custom longer fr springs to it with bigger, beefier shackles.
so hopefully 2019 is the yr for paint...
then the dishwasher took a dump last month, another 600....yeah, hoping 2019

i think i kinda burned out on models for awhile....
took a break from trucks and just kinda threw this extra old '57 together in a couple days. not a truck, but it's a chebby...

grabbed some real oil and grime off my stepside and smeared it all over the chassis and engine...left it on my bench for about 3 days and like a real chevy, it marked it's spot when the grime warmed up and dripped all over..Name: IMG_3033.jpg

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

don't know if i ever showed this....prob would'nt interest anyone but a roofer...
being a 37 yr roofer, i had to have a tar kettle. of course nobody makes anything even remotely like a tar pot, so i scratched one up awhile ago. hardest part was the MARATHON brand decals. i cut each single letter out from the
"all trademarks and copyrights reserved"
on the bottom of the decal sheets they give ya...
it is waaay to clean for a working kettle, but did'nt think i should dump some real tar on it...i think i may have hit on a solution though, white glue with black paint...looks very convincing

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

it has some neat features, turn the flywheel and the crank and pistons move, the valve covers come off and reveal an excellent detail valvetrain.
it has real metal Delco tags for the starter and generator, correct pt numbers on the exhaust manifolds, real rubber fan belt and i like how it has "oil" embossed on the filler...

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

that old 300 and something piece fire truck i bought awhile ago has been yelling at me loudly lately....nothing to show, just got the engine block cleaned and glued together, really looking forward to dicking around on this one
Name: IMG_3070.jpg
Views: 431

and of course i got a square going...
was going to build it for a "Weekend Warrior" face off with some other guys, but wit everything happening, did'nt make the deadline...not to knock anyone or their work, but their idea's of "weekend warrior" were, i thought, pretty lame...
yeah, went wit a cheesy "razorback" from the '80's on a rescue blazer. yup, the same snap together rescue blaze i made my super sub out of...no detail...no engine...no opening hood... no detail....
the front clip i replaced with a pickup one with an opening hood.....seats are out of a '99 silverado s/c, 427 bb, sm 465, 1 ton axles, and to help make it a weekend warrior, a doubler on the t-case. it will also have a underhood welder and compressor and prob some big bumpers with some d-rings and other things...

Yeah, it's been a while, too bad about not painting the truck. All the models look good. I really like how you aged the 57. It looks great and nice nob creating the tar kettle.

ya, was hoping for paint this yr...but after 15 yrs, whats a few more mos...lol
my kid really, really enjoys his new quad so what the hay, i can live wit it. actually nice him having a big quad, he could barely keep up with his old one if we rode slow (polaris outlaw 90) with his new one (arctic cat 700) now he not only keeps up, he can outrun even dad's quad....
plus side is i now have wifey even pushing for me to get some paint on it next yr...
did'nt get much done on my sq blazer, just the fr susp, nuttin else....cause i was playing around with my fire truck...

most of the frame done. this one is box stock, no scratching, only swapped out the rims and tires cause i was missing one fr rim. took a chance they will fit and not hit....there about 3/16 taller than the stockers. plus their chrome, i notice all the fire trucks in our town have chromies as well

part of the turntable for it. still needs the controls, handles, steps....moves up and down and rotates 360 degrees. wrapped some real scale wire around the drum

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

thanks Dale!
it's the way our local fire trucks are painted. we do have a ladder truck (actually is Engine 3) but it is much more modern than this early '70's LaFrance...i pretty much just did it how the newer truck is. the only thing i did to the kit though was to add the chrome wheels, the ladder controls (stock ones were pretty weak...) and the sign boards for the main ladder
spent awhile doing the body drop tonite, and only knocked off one hand rail...
coming to the final stages, cab drop (pia) sirens and mirrors and all the other stuff on a fire truck

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

ya, the chromes look much better i think too...
45 yr old decals were pretty tuff to use, even after i sprayed decal bonder on them 3 times, they still wanted to come apart..
and the small ladders are/were warped bad...see i'm going to have to do more work on 2 of them...

it's about 20" long, would take up waaaay to much space in my cabinets, so i'm building a case for it....my glass cutter is a cheap 10 buck jobbie...and i'm not a glazier...

ladder is dry now...if you extend the 3rd section, or don't lean it on something, it just flips the truck over....should have glued some lead or something in the compartments for counterweight....
