And
A man purse
He was nervous I was going to screw him
So he wanted to go to DMV to do the transaction
He jumped in and I drove him to Oakland DMV
By the time we got there he was starting to change his mind
And wanted it for less money
Nope
So I said, see you later
I think I drove him to a mall or something
Then he rechanged his mind
I was getting tired of It so I said
Show me the money
Most of it came out of the man purse
Then he started digging into his socks
And some holster thing he Had under his shirt.
All green
We drove back to DMV
Learned about his family
And he was going to frame off the truck
This was before COVID
I’ll never forget it, we waited in line for a while
Got to the counter and were helped by most beautiful black woman
I have ever seen in my life
But she was wearing surgical gloves.
Asked her why, but she wasn’t very nice
And just collected his money
By the time we were done
There was a tow truck outside
I rolled the truck off the trailer
Told man purse man to drive it over to the tow truck
Said he couldn’t
Because he didn’t know how to drive a stick shift
So I did

Never heard from him again
Man purse......and couldn't drive a stick shift.....Holy crap....What's happening to the male species? LOL!

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’

Funnier story

At some point in my life I had a significant other
That was of German heritage
All her family was over there
We used to visit often
And whenever the cousins would come to America
They would stay with us
One year
It was time for one Of the teenage girls to
‘Come to America’ with her teenage friend
We told them to fly into SFO and rent a car

When they got to the airport, they freaked out
And called us
In broken germinglish
Eric ‘ the only cars they have are automatic’
We only know how to drive standard

To this day I laugh about that conversation

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’

The motor and the ochre bed looked great - why did you strip the paint off these?

More disassembly photos if possible please. These serve as a great reference. Note forward the speedo and ebrake cables are buddied up on the frame with a clip then rearward a single clip secures just the ebrake cable as the speedo cable dives to the ratio adapter at the tcase.

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’

Eric, your story about the SWB yellow truck reminded me of one of my sales.

I had a Hugger Orange 72 Cheyenne Super I bought off the original owner. I put it in Hemmings Motor news and a kid from St Louis called about it. He asked all the right questions and, after a lengthy conversation, I didn't hear from him again until about six months later he called and asked if I still had the truck, he was coming to look at it.

Crickets for two more weeks. He called late Friday afternoon and said he was doing a brake job on a truck, and when finished, that guy was bringing him here and he would be here Saturday morning at 8. I told him to meet me at the Chevy dealer.

I thought, no way is this guy going to do a brake job and be here at eight in the morning. I went to the Chevy dealer and low and behold, this guy pulls up, wearing a motorcycle jacket and boots, in a 66 Chevy truck with a longhaired kid and a 16 year old girl with short short shorts, stringy hair and no shoes.

We made the deal and he said where can we go private to pay you. We first went in the bathroom and here comes longhaired chauffer boy. They buyer says "we need somewhere more private". We borrowed the sales managers office. The kid pulls up his jeans leg and has money strapped to his leg. He paid me in twenty dollar bills. He still had money strapped to his leg when he finished paying me.

We went out side and I said "I wonder where your buddy went?". He said "He's not my buddy.", got in the truck and drove off.

Side note; during the deal I asked him what happened to the six months between when he first called and now. He had two custom trucks and wanted an all original one so he had to sell them. I asked what business his buyer was in to pay with twenty dollar bills. He said "i don't ask questions."

That’s exactly why I never do deals with strangers at my house and when I do any deals with large sums of cash involved I’ve got my concealed carry handy. Crazy stuff.

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’

People sure are funny aren’t they. Must be something about that truck and wild adventures.. It Sounds like it went to a good home... and it may never get driven again for some reason I really liked that truck, light yellow normally isn’t my thing but there was just something no really cool about that one. Mr. Rogers, you sure are doing some nice work! Nothing screams early 70’s like ochre on olive. I dig it.

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’

It’s intriguing to me that it’s a flint built truck. Seems like most of the trucks I see my way and I’d assume there in California as well are mostly Fremont builds, of course I say that and mine is a Janesville... I assume it’s had a repaint based on the orange tint to the spid and the lack of white on the tops of the doors?

When I met my wife she had only driven stick. She grew up with her mother driving VW Bugs and everything at her Family Orchard was stick as well.

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’

Another one that’s long gone

Came from a flipper (which is where a lot of the good ones come from)
They are always looking
So often times they find them before you do

I made a deal over the phone
He even delivered it to me

I’ve had Supers twice in this color combo

In my opinion the ‘patina’
Or
‘Rusty paint’
Depending who you are talking too

Was very nice on this truck
