Ouch! That looks painful. I bet you can salvage the heim joint for sure but the female threads look toast. Good luck!

Sucks about the heim joint Ernie but in the grand scheme of things, just a bump in the road compared to the other stuff!

It's really starting to take shape!

Maybe, I'll lean on Nate for the answer to that question.

I had started a bolt and ran it in with an impact during mock up.
It ate the threads when I removed it.
This was the only one.
So I now chase all the theads of any welded nut just to make sure.
(this was the bridge that bolts to the PB step notch).
I also check them after having parts powder coated.

For cleaning threads,... I don't use a normal tap and die set.
I use a set of thread chasers that I got from Sears, years ago.
They're made for cleaning, not cutting.
(I guess they have a shallower cutting edge)
You can chuck them up in a battery drill to make quick work of this job.
I understand what you are saying and agree 100%, I need to have a set up like that.

Thanks brutha! The cost is starting to weight heavy on my mind and the money wasted by redoing things doesn't help, but I'm going to push through as best I can.

Re: Project: Shiro

A tap & die for that trailing arm/Heim combo will be pricey. That's not a small hole.

Hey!! I was either at work or in the garage working on the chassis. And a man has to sleep at some point! I certainly can't complain about a lack of updates from you all, thanks for that!

They're doing great work, I feel fortunate to have found these folks. This cab will be BETTER than new when I pick it up next week.

You're not kidding about the great work! Those guys have some killer metal working skills. I really like the way they did the filler patch. That would make it so much easier to do hammer and dolly work after welding.

Top notch welding, you know it's good when you can't see the patch, you definitely picked the right guys for the job.
