Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Finally found a locksmith who could cut a key from the code on the driver's door cylinder. Got lucky & the key fit the ignition too. So I can finally start the shortbed w/o hotwiring it, and can lock the cab. This means it doesn't have to stay locked in the garage just too keep it from wandering off, meaning I have a free bay to get some stuff done on all the various vehicle projects here.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I pulled open a Camaro V8 T5 tranny, cleaned, inspected and then reassembled it. It was FUN!
It's not the same as working on my truck, but it still qualifies because I will put a T5 tranny in my truck instead of the original 3 speed.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
There is a dismantler near me in Brentwood that had three 64-66 C10's when I was there a few weeks ago. No good grills but a few good grill surrounds. I can't remember if any had a good drivers fender. I can see what these guys have available next time I'm there, probably early next week. It looks like your bumper lived through the carnage. What else do you think you need?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Repost from my build thread--
Here we go a little deeper--I yanked the rear floor section out tonight. I'm almost done with removing all the undercoating and I think the wheel wells will be the biggest pain as it's really thick and stuck on pretty good. Oh well--just letting the air scaler do it's job. I only ended up breaking two bolts during removal of the rear floor--but decided to finally do it. I will now have to wrestle with the idea of installing a "truck-style" rear floor--or if I'll do the plywood again. If I do the plywood--I'll have to source similar style rubber coating--shouldn't be too difficult. Or--maybe carpet?? Likely rubber.. ORRRRRR--maybe put some nice stainless runners atop the plywood or a raised protective surface?? I dunno--we shall see. Either way-having the floor out makes clean up very easy.. Here are the pics-- someone really hammered the hell out of the inner parts of the wheel houses.. I don't know why-- you can see the two halves of plywood-measured out at 5/8" thick. The rubber top almost seems like it had a layer of asphalt between it and the wood--it does NOT peel off. rear lip detail.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Let's see, I changed the oil,
Put some heat in the motor and ran the valves (hadn't done it but once since freshening the motor in Feb) rotated the slicks wiped it down with Nextel to purdy her up a bit... dumped 5 gallons of fuel in it and went for a drive down town to terrorize the natives (it's so fun having a street legal race truck)

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Merry Christmas everyone.
Nicola got me some plates, which includes a 1950 plate from a Russian tractor. I got her a bunch of girly stuff and some pipes, a pipe rack and a decent reference book on smoking pipes for her collection. After prezzie opening (the kids were here too) they carried on watching Disney movies, which they do every year. I went down to the garage to sort out a few bits, refit the signs and plates on the shed that the storms took of the other night. Then I mounted all the number plates and loads of others I have recently traded and collected etc. I also checked the trucks oils, tyre pressure and lights, just a general check over as i may be using it tomorrow to go to Farningham to the yearly Boxing Day classic bike get together with some friends, including Woodsie and Martin. Once that was done I needed to scratch another itch. Last week a pickup truck lost its canopy spectacularly a couple of miles from here. It ended up in pieces on the side of the road, and a few days later it was tossed over the Armco barrier into the bushes. I have wanted to build a removable aluminium canopy for the rear of the truck that can be used for camping if mounted on a set of legs. The rear sliding glass was the only bit that was not broken up, and I saw it as a perfect addition to the canopy, against the cab rear. So armed with some leather gloves and a hacksaw and spare blade, I went to see if it was still there, and found it...... Cut out the glassfibre back frame and removed the glass before the council come to clear it away. Now sitting in front of a fire, cheese and biscuits and a nice coffee...... Perfect end to a great day. Looking forward to finding a cheap or free aluminium caravan to strip the ally sheeting from to cover the canopy in, using a pair of stainless portholes I got from the tip for this job some time ago..... and will still figure out the rear door and latch/catch. Watch this space too.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Worked on replacing the lower fender panel the previous owner butchered up installing.
After inner brace installed and patch tracked in place. Finally finished the panel. Ready for primer.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I drove it!!!
You southern guys probably are thinking "so what?" but up here in northern Illinois it's a rare December 28 that's sunny, dry, and 50 degF. Got a lot of nods and grins especially from those who saw these trucks new back in the day. Fun drive! Tomorrow, snow is predicted with a low temperature of -3 degF predicted overnight to Monday, when I have a 10am appointment at the range to vent my winter frustrations. ...ned.
