Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
ya, it's an exciting time Dale.....then the wait starts...to keep costs down, my buddy will be spreading it over a couple mos.
he'll prob need it just for the bodywork... rockers need some work, and there's about 7 or 8 dents down the pass side. hard to tell under the lights (makes it actually look better...lol) but this side is "wavy" and denty, but at least it's the worst side. dr side is good for dents, just one up on the fr fender. tailgate has dents (it's that light thing making it look good again) there's 3 dents in the back of the cab around the winda, one dent on the roof, and one dent in the hood. tomorrow i'll undo the bed bolts and put my small tires on it and take it to the shop. time to break out the wallet..lol color is woodlawn green, or forest ranger green as i call it. ex-forest service truck, orig paint, been looking at buddy's color charts, he's got some nice greens in there...maybe just a tad darker with some metallic-ness in it...not a 100% sure, but it will be some shade of green |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Dale!
ya, kinda leaning to the forestry green myself, hardly any type of trucks around here that color....drove it all stripped down to buddy's shop the other day, with no flats...you should see the MASSIVE cracks by the bead in one of my rollers-totally expected to get a flat. going down there tomorrow, i will get a pic of it, you will crap yer pants when you see it.. blazer should be done in a couple more days... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
finally finished the blazer....
almost a waste of a kit..lol used just the 3/4's, part of the frame, and the int tub. cab and front clip are from the revell hot rod truck, seats from a '99 silverado, and the big block is built from parts from the spare box... prob be the last big 4x4 build for awhile, once again our dollar is in the toilet, and my resin caster just doubled(!) his shipping rates again...a $1.25 t-case is now $22.50 delivered to my door...nope, not likely.... wife found a few more cars at a garage sale, plus i got a tow truck and another '66 sub in the stash. i do have 2 t-cases left, no more big tires, so thinking a stock 4by build on the sub....maybe time to brush up on a few cars as well.... couple more vettes, a '56 and a blah-ferrari, euro trash.... |

actually i use pretty much whatever i can find if it's the color i like. my '66 panel i used paint from the '80's!.... for small details i just use Testors, Humbrol, and Model Master mostly. Tamiya paint is nice, but expensive up here... for glueing i again use Testors and dollar store instant super glue. White glue is great for clear parts, dries clear if you get it where you should'nt. i do have an airbrush, but being lazy (cleaning...) i rarely drag it out anymore, if i can find the color in a spray bomb, i'll go that route. i do have an affinity for Krylon flat or satin black for chassis 's. i have never had a paint job or chassis go wrong using Krylon. and if it's real old paint ('66 panel) instead of pushing it threw my airbrush, i'll use this detail gun i got.... pretty hard to go wrong with most materials out there now, i remember building models almost 50 yrs ago with c**p glue and lousy paint have'nt made it to the shop lately Dale, but 2 of 4 rockers we're just going to replace them, other 2 are good. been buying and restoring parts for it though.. last 10 yrs or so i been running a billet grille.... just for a change-up, i dragged out my stock grille, fixed a crack in it and shot some new paint on it...when the truck gets painted, i'll get buddy to paint the middle band same as the truck...green... just and i mean just painted, have'nt even pulled the masking off the back yet.. |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
it's fun spending money....especially on yer truck...
not new, but better than mine 454 emblems, chev letters for the tailgate and the green box is window fuzzy's for all 4 drs some new cab marker lights and tailgate lights. new Custom Deluxe emblems. my son bought me the wiper blades, steering wheel cover and a new back-up lite to replace a non working one for christmas new window runs and door seals for all 4 drs. also got new winda regulators for the fr doors. them objects wrapped in the newspaper is new drip rails (4) got 4 new dr handles, dr bumpers, fuel tank bumpers, tailgate bumpers and new dr locks on order. everything else is cleaning up or restoring real nice... check out what else my son made for me. i only have fuzzy dice ever hanging on my rearview mirror, and the dots keep falling off the current set, so son made these dice out of blocks of balsa wood, light weight, last forever, and the dots won't fall off...i think he did a darn fine job, even got them the color of the crew |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
yup, i hope so Dale, cause right now it looks like poo...lol
new front rockers to go in, plus the drivers cab corner, found some bubbles on it pass rocker is better shape than the drivers, but pass side of the body sure needed a lot of massaging, looking much straiter and less wavy...also started on the dents by the rear winda drivers is a little more rougher, need a bit of front floor as well.... drivers side body is much better than the pass |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
ya, a little bit of work, but it's coming along nicely. one of the guys i work with is friends with one of the body guys doing the sheetmetal work on my crew. he was done there the other day and showed me a couple pics on his phone, front inner and outer rocker are all new and looking good, as is the pass rocker, cab corner is cut out but the new one is not in yet. only dent i could see left was in the roof. i'll prob go down there next sat and drop off my grille and take some pics...
while waiting for it i dragged out this sub i've had since last yr... as parts are waaay to expensive right now, this will be pretty much box stock. i have one 205 t-case left, so it will be 4by. dug threw the parts box, came up wit these goodyear tires that should look mostly period correct with the steelies and hubcaps. hood is not the color, just off my 1 ton for mock-up... instead of just another sb, going to re-hash this '60 strait 6 into more of a '66 strait six. had to scrounge up some axles, will prob just use the diffs and make axle tubes depending on when my crew gets back, could be a fast build (lol) or a slow build... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
how come might be selling your crew Dale?
i'm starting to get stoked about mine... some sheet metal fitted in...all needs final welding new inner and outer fr pass rocker, there was a soft spot on the rear rocker, so it got replaced, as did the cab corner. body is lookin' waaay straiter now, you can see what a mess it was and how it was all wavy drivers is looking much nicer too. fr inner and outer rockers as well as a piece of floor. rear rocker was the same as the pass side so said the hay with it and replaced the outer, and the cab corner. have'nt seen the bottom of the cab this straight in many yrs....nothing like say Chromaholic's masterpiece, but good enough to haul the camper and atv trailer with.. |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
went and bought a buffing wheel for my bench grinder.....liking the results on my crewcab steps...
most of the sub chassis is done....going low-buck bare bones base model on this one....no two tone or anything upscale and fancy... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
most of the interior....blew my base model theme on the seats....i did them just brown orig, but they looked pretty plain, so i got a little carried away on them...
thinking the spare tire might migrate to the front bumper...it looks cool on there |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
getting closer...
....so is my crew....should be in primer by friday, blocked a couple times, then splash some color... watched my body guy re-do this '84 K20 before my crew, rockers, corners, etc. he has about 40 musclecars, classics, rods, vettes, but no squares till this. now that he's got one and it's done, i'm trying to pry it off him.....good thing with him is, usually everything eventually has a price... my son gets his license next yr and this is pretty much what we've been looking for (a done perfect body!) i'll just lay it on him real thick 'bout my boys first ride...lol |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Suburban looks great. I love the color and spare on the front. Crew looks like they're doing a nice job. Keep us updated. I might sell the dually because of health issues and my friends gave me an "Overhaulin" on my 72 K20. They towed it away took the new frame and parts truck. Two weeks later I'm driving it. So I'm going to thin the herd a bit
