Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew
Ok, back on topic...
I had come up just short on the mandrel bends, so I ordered up another u-bangey but in stainless. I re-made one of my hangers to get it just right and finished the exhaust out. It's exactly what I wanted it to be - stoked about this part of the build. I still have to pull it apart, weld it all out and paint it (except the stainless tips ) and hang it on the wall. I bought a slip-yoke for the trans, measured and ordered up a 4" DOM x 1310 driveline. Weld yokes had to be ordered but should be done any day now. Knuckles scored a job at the engine/machine shop we've been using ! So far he's been tearing down motors and tanking them but he's already buried the shop in cores, so they're going to start training him over on the clean side, probably in assembly first. He's diggin' it and SOMEBODY has a 327 to get started on Did a full rebuild / restore on my chainsaw too cuz we mushed it at the end of last year. It's bad azz and I'll get a vid here soon on the Crummy page.

Exhaust on the '67 looks great! I like how you routed it out back. Seeing yours sitting pretty made me want to go out to the garage and take the cover off CRLS and give it a hug.

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew
The Purdy truck saga continues. Turns out that it was in "limp mode", which only allows it to go fwd in some middle gear. By the time it got towed to the dealer it had reset itself. They say it had logged a traction control error and a TCM error. No further details. They couldn't duplicate the problem, which I guess equals fixed. BS! The did replace the rear seal in the t-case because I pointed out that it was leaking. They ignored the wet power steering hose I pointed out. Guess they need to burst before they're bad. GM Certified AND a GM check-up after I bought it. Hmm... I took the second service advisor for a spin and he too heard the crunchy noise between 1 and 2. Another appointment scheduled for Tuesday. I had a '14 for a loaner while they had mine for a WEEK and it sure doesn't make any racket like that. UGH!
On a better note, driveline is done! 4" DOM for an appropriate critical speed Wasn't cheap dudes, more than half of what I paid for the whole C10 I asked that they didn't rattle-can it. I'll degrease it, prime it and shoot it with the semi-gloss tractor paint I've been using. It was funny when I called and asked them not to paint it. "It's gonna rust you know". I laughed... "whether you paint it or not". Clutch going in the Crummy this weekend.

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew
I've had a little back-n-forth with Captainfab on PM. I think my plan is to use the parts from his kit on the inside of the cab. Sounds like he can supply just the plate that lays on the firewall that he uses to fab up his adapter bracket. That'll help me locate the clutch master. It's coming...

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew
I've spent most of the day going through this thread and a couple others. Going with a dual quad 327 and 4 speed is cool cool cool. The rolling stock choice and all. Just plain *****in. With everybody on the LS fad these days it is great to see this old school setup going in a new build. John I admire your determination. It seemed at times this rebuild would be pushed aside indefinitely while life got in the way. It's cool your son is also a gear head. He's learning some hard lessons. One of my dad's sayings I heard oh so many times was "the bought lessons you won't forget". He was right. If it costs you some pain or cash you tend to remember it better. I hope "knuckles" does take his mechanical enthusiasm to school and put it to good use. You have some serious support group too. I particularly enjoyed the 'elco' isms. Keep a hammering John. I look forward to further updates.

Nothing to report... My oldest is getting married this weekend, so we've been pretty busy on that front lately.

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew
Been plugging away a bit here lately. Blew the cab and bed back off, pulled the exhaust and welded that all up for good (Boy did that is). Block and crank will be headed to the machine shop here soon for clean/inspect/bore.
I trucked over to Coeur d'Alene and picked up those clutch master cylinder bits from CaptianFab. All I can say is that it's super, super well done. It came out slick, works perfect and looks great. Thanks John!! I put his laser cut plate onto the firewall, then took the closest size hole-saw and ran it through. I then took a burr and used it much like a flush trim router bit, letting the smooth part of the shank ride around the plate while the cutters flushed the firewall to the plate. I drilled a 3/8" hole in the clutch pedal lever to line up with the master cylinder linkage. It's perfect! The pedal strokes almost to the floor and the linkage action and actuation of the master is spot-on. I still have to order up that Novak slave kit. Next up is welding out the engine stands I fabbed as well as all the No Limit suspension parts out back to get rid of some of them "bolt-on" bolts.

I bought some VHT and painted the exhaust. Still gotta get Boy to sandblast my headers so I can put the black VHT on those. I'm a little worried that it isn't bonding that well. I scrubbed it all down and then wiped it with a clean rag and thinner but it sure comes off easy! Hopefully I can touch it up after install and a few heat cycles will cure it to a tougher state. The hard-wire MIG did the job on the aluminized and stainless but I had to knock the welds down some with a soft disc. Overall I'm super happy with the results. I'll get it all on the wall this weekend and work towards finishing the chassis. Boy is in the middle of another badass motor. Still having drama with his aluminum heads so he's whipping up a roller (Vortec) 350. He's getting the sweet deal / employee discount. They just bought a new balancing machine at his shop and he's learning how to run that gear on his own rotating assembly! He's going to do up some Vortec heads with the lightweight LS valves and the boss hauled out some custom regrind cam for him. Should be about 10.0:1 and pretty cool. I'll put up video! My block, crank and heads ready for inspect!

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew
I would have thought you would have used some good ol' stove paint. That's what I have always used with good results. Of course I always have my exhaust parts blasted for best adhesion.

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew
Dad had cases of that stove paint after he and Ma closed the store. The tubing is all aluminized, so I didn't get it blasted. At first I was just going to paint the welds but that started to look crappy, so I shot the whole dealio. Hope it holds up well.
Did a little work on the frame last night. Welded those pipe rings in the trailing arm cross member where the exhaust passes through.
