Re: Shawno72's long overdue 68 daily driver build thread

Ok guys, I took the truck for a longer drive at highway speeds and all I have to say is the ride SUCKS!! Is this common with air bags or is more like my air pressure in the rear bags is to low (25psi)? With the coil springs this rode like a dream. I may have to lose the bag hats and mount directly to the frame?

I would remove the hats and mount it to the frame so you could increase the amount of air in the bag. Thats gonna help your ride quality!

Look at the up side (really down), you can go lower without the hats!! Well if you cut a hole for your rear end anyway!

Re: Shawno72's long overdue 68 daily driver build thread

Try 40psi to 50 psi right now,... to check the ride.
Get that dialed in while checking the ride height.
That will tell you if removing the hats, will make them work for you.
(how tall are the hats?)

She is still driveable just bouncy, hey I may as well just air it out more for a really low ride height

I thought of that too. It'll just look like I'm stuck in the 70s with my rear way up in the air

[QUOTE=shawno72;5994128]Well guys I took it for a good little drive over rail road tracks and lots of bumps. She rides very well and never once bottomed out. I am quite happy with the bags [/Q Remember this...... Loose the hats and mount the bags to the frame and adjust the air psi. too fine tune the ride

Will a holesaw do the job cutting a hole into the frame for the air fitting?

It should.
Make a good template of the top of the bag.
I put the two bag mount holes in line (parallel) with the frame.
That gives you the option to put the air fitting towards the inside of the frame or the outside.
It's a tight fit getting your hand up in there.
I also used studs in the upper air bag bolt holes.
Since you are working by "feel",... then all you have to do is install a couple washers and nuts.

Great tip, thanks I'll def use the studs idea. I see a lot of guys put the fitting hole to the inside of the frame so I guess I'll follow suit.

Haven't tried it yet. Don't want to run around like a stink bug In town its fine but when I get to highway speeds and the road is rough then it gets bouncy. I am gonna plan on removing the hats but for now I just want to drive it for a bit.
