Re: 198Plus build

Some pics to look at. I took some inventory pics of what Ronnie brought over.

Got the drivers rocker cut off. It would normally take longer than a 1/2 hour to remove one that had been replaced if it was welded good. Only 2 welds were holding it along the top of the inner rocker.

The entire bottom lip was barely welded. It popped off real easy with the air hammer with hardly amy tearout.

I've still got some clean up to do.

Hey Ronnie, did you loose a carpenters pencil LOL. This is a pic of what fell out of the rocker.

Let's hope so. It's gotta be better than what has been done so far.

Here's your right rocker in pieces, Ronnie. It took an hour to get this one off. It was on there pretty good.

Notice your home made dogleg in your A post.

Notice the hole in the inner structure on the B post. It's in the middle of the pic. The old welds have not been clean up yet. I didn't want to waste the time if I'm gonna be replacing it.

Inner rocker rot behind the B post.

Ronnie what is covering this joint up Ronnie, Mud?? Both sides are like that. I haven't dug into it yet. I was already cleaned up and taking last shots of the day.

I need to brace the cab before I cut any more metal out. Due to the fact I don't know what's been done and whats holding it all together. It also has to make the journey to the sand blaster.

Ronnie, you did say you hung some doors previously and they fit, correct?

Hey Ronnie, I might have missed something, but why didn't you let Allan finish working on it? Why did you bring it to this other guy? His work looked like a hack did it. I hope it wasn't you... Sorry if it was.

Re: 198Plus build

Hey Ronnie,

Where is the shop located? Looks like a really nice body shop. If you can afford to convince Alan to come work for you, You might have so much restoration work lined up you will have a back log of business. which sounds like a great deal.

I hope you can stomach what we might find as I dig deeper. I found some surprises today.

First off, the sand blaster guy came by today and gave me a price to blast the cab, inner aprons, H/L mount panel, core support, 2 doors and some of the small items. He priced it at $700. There is no markup on my part. I know you said you could have it done cheaper over where you are. The choice is yours. It should be ready this afternoon for the blaster. It will save you a lot of travel time if he does it, but I understand if you want someone else to do it. I spent 4.0 hrs today so far bracing the cab and cutting the RT "A" post and RT cab corner off.

Here is what I found under the filler at the windshield joint. Someone tried to braze it. Looks like they were hiding some rust which is still poking thru.

Cab bracing

The right cab corner with pin hole rust spots.

I cut the cab corner off and I am holding it up next to the cab in this pic if it looks confussing.

The inside of the right kick panel. It's such a PITA to cut off something and try to save it that someone else has welded. They welded up the curve at the pinch weld.

Here is what was lurking behind someone's cover up.

It's a shame that professionals did this kind of work.

The wife had something to do, so I had to take a break to watch the kids. I will get back after it this afternoon/evening and will get the LT "A" post and cab corner cut off. I'm also gonna take some detailed pics of my doors to see if you still want me to use them.

Re: 198Plus build

I figured you needed more good news. HAHA

Here's the drivers A post or what's left.

Here is another way to patch the dog leg.

Notice the whiskers

Here's another way to patch pin holes in the cab corner.

The inner rocker isn't as bad as the right side, but still needs some work.

I was curious what was on the inside of the kick panel. The pic doesn't show how thick the filler is.

I looked over the 2 doors I have and checked the threads at the hinge points. There is more pics in your photobucket account for you to check out and see if these are something you want to work with. Both doors need inner and outer lower patches.

I do have a inner patch for the right door. I picked it up a while back to repair one of these doors. I'll sell it for $30

Where do you want get your panels from? I've got a PM to 65Custom about the cab corners. I believe it was Classic parts.

Re: 198Plus build

It's amazing how hard they work to patch things up, instead of doing it right the first time. It's actually easier to do it the right way.
