Your truck is coming along great! Before long you will have it done and driving! Irefully like that you are doing it yourself.

Thanks tj, glad to see you getting back to two tone now that crustine is back on the road. Thanks bill Thanks man, I'm really trying to make progress but it can be hard with school and work, and of course I know what it's like to be on a tight budget. Keep on plugging away at it and you'll be done eventually

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
last night I made a template for the booster and clutch master and brought it in to shop class today to make it. I used 10 guage cut on the plasma cutter and cleaned it up with the grinder. This is uses the exact same dimensions as captainfab's bracket except it doesn't push it outwards as I need as much room as possible to clear the oilbath aircleaner. I still will need to drill the holes in the firewall for the booster but the hole point in this bracket is to reinforce the area where the clutch master goes since it is only 18 gauge and a lot of pressure will be on it while pushing in the clutch

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
So today after school I got the four holes drilled in the firewall for the booster, they were not a piece of cake but not terrible either. The top two holes had multiple layers to go through which was pretty easy but the bottom two holes were a bit more trouble, once I got through the first later the drill bit hit the second layer which was on an angle and the bit kept on wanting to jam up but with some patience I was able to get through just fine. Here is the bracket mocked up on the firewall.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
I also have some more news, this project just keeps on snowballing. First it was "if I'm going to switch the x member then I might as well take the engine out" then "if the engines out I might as well clean it up and paint it" and then "while I'm at it I might as well do power steering, power brakes" and so on. Well I've done it again, I decided that while the engine is out I might as well paint the firewall since I don't want to take it this far apart in the future. So I have just put in an order for 503 glenwood green with one of my friends that is a painter so he can get very good paint for very cheap. I'm hoping to have the firewall in paint and the engine back in before it gets too cold

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Got the booster and bracket fitted up against the firewall, I had to open up the hole for the pushrod a bit so the rubber boot would fit. Now all that needs to be done is to drill the holes for the clutch master cylinder.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Very nice! You are doing an amazing job.
I bought my first truck ('72 c10 swb) when I was 16 years old. drove it for a few years and then started striping it down but with minimal tools and money I did not get past that point, so now I'm 38 and still have the truck in pieces. I bought a '62 GMC roughly twelve years ago and drove it most of that time, now I have it ripped down as well, yes two trucks in pieces. Every time I see your posts I kick myself in the butt for not working on my truck more. I'm not letting that happen to the GMC! Thanks for all the motivation, looking forward to seeing you complete your truck.
