Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Yesterday my son and I hiked to Maryland's highest point, Hoye Crest on Backbone Mt. It is located at the very SW tip of Maryland. The Fairfax Stone was set during George Washington's time and is nearby. It is the survey mark, set by Mason & Dixon, that marks the tip of Maryland, which is where the western boundary shoots straight to the square corner at the MD/PA border originates. The origin is a spring that is the source of the (N. Fork) Potomac River. Up real near Hoye Crest is where Marker #3 is set

Tim, that’s an awesome hike, I did it about 10 years ago, we also did the high point in PA(just up from MD) Wv( the restaurant at the base of the peak is an awesome place to grab a bite) and Mt Rogers in Va. I miss those days.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Got out this morning and started cutting juniper brush on the 20 acre place we bought next door. It's a pretty frustrating and unrewarding task but there are a few pine trees to fall to widen out the road up in there. I hurt my back about a month ago working on the house and just now getting back into doing stuff and I sure am sore.

Still not sure what happened to the last 40 years ???

It has hurt practically my whole life. The day before I turned 15 some drunk/distracted driver rear ended a parts store van which had its front wheels turned waiting to turn left and popped across the center line into the path of our 1966 C10 pickup. I caved in the glove box with my knees but wasn't hurt until a few days later my lower back started hurting.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Worked on my utility trailer lights. When I rewired and replaced the lights last year I had a pair of carbon fiber turn signal/side marker lights left over from a motorcycle project years ago so I decided to use them as clearance lights. One of the bulbs was burned out but I decided to check a few things before simply replacing the bulb. Yep, something grounded out. After a few tests with the DVM the search was on. Found one of the clips that came with the wiring kit had pinched through one spot on the wire. I didn't really like those when I put them on so now I am considering removing all of them and replacing with something else.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

A year ago I thought I'd replace those what I thought were cheapy plastic tail lamp units on my trailer with some nicer metal ones. That was a mistake as they began to rust right away. Now they look like they're 30 years old. Another lesson learned moment for me.

Jim - sounds like my luck. Try to make things better and regret it in the long run. I actually like these little lights on the sides of my trailer. They light up after dark as side markers but also blink and light up on signal and brake. They were in my tool box for probably 10 years. Were supposed to go on a sport bike I was working on but owner changed his mind.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Today I did something that I haven't done in years.

I rode the bus.

I had to drop my car off at the shop and had no ride home. Somehow everyone I know was busy and it took me a week to get this appointment for the car. So I wasn't missing it.

So I took the bus home. It wasn't bad. Kind of nice actually. But it did remind me of when I was a kid and my school bus crashed and we all went flying around.(No seat belts in those days) No one got really hurt but we all got bounced around pretty good and that bus was really smashed up.

So it was kind of a Deja Vu moment for me.

You didn't say how your bus crash happened, but my high school bus got hit on the way home one time. Someone came out from a side street, crossed the other lane and ran into the side of the bus in front of the rear axle. Just a big jolt for us kids, but I've always wondered how they couldn't see something that is literally as big as a bus and covered in 238 gallons (estimated) of bright orange-yellow paint.

So true about the paint! One of my sons was on the way to school on the bus and noticed that the bus had stopped in the middle of the intersection. Someone in a Mercedes couldn't wait for the bus to get all the way through the intersection, turned early and drove under the bus all the way to the windshield. Nobody hurt, nobody on the bus even felt the impact! 55 passenger bus is what...40 feet long? SMH

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

The only school bus mishap I experienced was one morning we passed an oncoming combine that had a light hanging out enough to rake across the windows shattering them. Very startling to say the least. I thought it was cool. No one got hurt and we got to school really late!

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I added a spin-on filter to my parts washer, just a small motorcycle/atv size filter. Let it run and the solvent is noticeably cleaner, lighter in color too. Just something I wanted to keep from recirculating the dirt/particulate on the parts I'm trying to clean. The pump seems happy and still has plenty of flow and luckily Rock Auto has these cheap little filters for $1.39 each which is good enough for a parts washer. When the flow slows down then it will be time to change the filter.

Replaced the crappy rear in the Dodge . Pumpkin rotted out but it’s a common problem with 2002 - 09 trucks with AAM rears. Got the old one out yesterday and the replacement in today. Just have to hook the brake lines ,bleed and hook up the ebrake

The pump seems happy and still has plenty of flow and luckily Rock Auto has these cheap little filters for $1.39 each which is good enough for a parts washer. When the flow slows down then it will be time to change the filter.
What a very cool idea. Would you mind posting up a picture?
