Thanks, still pluggin' away at it. Took all the stereo wiring out to redo for a different head unit. Got all that completed this past week. Now I just need to clean my seats, bolt them down and get it ready for its final paint... Then bolt all the crap on and drive it, lol.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...

Got the front seats cleaned and bolted in, they look way better. jamie72 came over and helped me bolt on the hood and cowl. After a couple hours of messing with alignment it all halfway fits. I figure a couple more hours and it will be good, lol. No pics, took some but it was too dark and they looked like crap. Gonna try and hit it again next Monday and Tuesday.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...

Got a little accomplished today. Front and rear seats are done. Did some surgery on a ammo can, gonna use it for rear storage. Made it fit up against the wheel well. Tossed the roll bar in to see how the seats recline inbetween the bars. Its tight but it works. Stuck the original grill on to check side to side fitment, then took it off and removed all the parts needed for the new grill. I seem to be having a issue getting the steering arm off to replace it with one for the lift. It simply refuses to let loose, lol.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...

I like the color! Is that an original grill surround, or aftermarket?

That steering arm is held on by conical washer that tighten as you pull up on the arm. I had to take my knuckle into the machine shop to have them press it off. Good luck with it.

That is the original grill surround. Looks way better in the pic then it actually is. I got a new one waiting to go on.

So far the steering arm is winning. I bet I have 5-6 hours in on it now. I will have a plasma cutter to use on it Saturday morning. Thats the plan anyways.

Took it out of the box, looks nice. Won't know for sure how nice until I have the middle and side pieces riveted on and it bolted up to the truck. Hopefully it will be as good as the original. I will post up pics when its done.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...

My cousin came over this morning and helped get it off. Took 2 hours... He has done a ton of lifts on Chevy trucks and he said this is the hardest one he ever messed with. We heated it, beat on it, heated, beat..... and nothin....
So he commenced to cutting, little by little. Finally with a strong blow of the hammer it popped up. Luckily the local Chevy dealer was able to get new Steering Arm Adapters in next day, the little cone things. I got it back together too. I'll post up the part number later.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...

Got the grill together. Still need to find a nice emblem to toss on it but the original will work for now. Had a neat set of valve covers given to me too. They need some love but I think they would be a nice addition. I'm about done aligning the front sheet metal. I don't think I can get it any better. Still a heavy eighth off on the passenger side fender in relation to the hood....

so funny to see this, probably not a 4wd guy around that hasn't had to go to this extreme at some point or another, I don't get how they seize so bad. This is a great build, hard to believe that's the same truck, great work, can't wait to see the progress

Big J=1 v. Steering arm=0 When I replaced mine I put anti-seize on the cones just in case for some awful reason I needed to take it off.
BTW that yellow looks sweet!
