Coming along nicely Aaron. My question is what are the two little components in the picture right before the dash pic? Also I've been meaning to ask, with the smoothed firewall, what are you doing about the wiper motor?
And thanks for the lead on headers that will fit our frames.

Re: my 80 build

thanks, one is a fuse holder and the other is a module for the electric fans, tonight I finished wiring the headlights, park, and side marker lights every think seams fine but my turn signals click really slow with the headlights are on, and when I had the bulb and grounds disconnected and hit the turn signal my starter relay clicked for some reason

Thanks Aaron, I guess I'll be needing to get a fan relay as well, but I need to first get the radiator and fans. I'm still wondering about your wiper motor location though? And did you reinforce the firewall for your brake booster after you removed the funky stamped factory bracing? Man, that's a butt ugly piece that GM came up with. Anyway, I hope you get the wiring issue resolved because I don't think that your starter relay should have clicked like that.
BTW you wouldn't still happen to have the template you made for your firewall skin would you?

Re: my 80 build

the wiper motor is going to mounted upside down on the passenger under the cab cowl, the brake booster bracket is still there

Re: my 80 build

Hey Aaron, great minds think alike. That is where I'm moving my wiper motor to as well. Having the cab all gutted, I noticed a hole in the passenger side of the firewall bulkhead that had a vacuum line and gromet going though it. That gave me the idea of trying to stab the motor shaft over there and fab up the mounting bolts. I'll probably end up putting the washer bottle under there as well since I'm wanting the engine space to be really clear of clutter. I'll have to come over to Mesquite some Saturday and see how you're doing it if that was alright.

Re: my 80 build

That sounds good any Saturday is good with me
got a little done today mocked the fan up and wired it in, worked on getting the horn working through the horn button no luck there, and then was messing around with my headlights, noticed the right turn signal indicator was lit then spend a good 30 minutes checking wiring, then I pulled the turn signal bulb out and put it back every thing was working fine also found the bulb to fit loosely in the socket

Re: my 80 build

worked on getting the steering column back together, had trouble with the upper bearings seating worked on it about a hour finally every thing fell into place, now the horn work through the canceling cam, then I tested the electric fans took a little adjustment every thing works up to par the fans come on around 190, I let it Idle for 20 minutes no problems, took it around block for 10 minute drive what a great feeling that was

Re: my 80 build

Hey Aaron,
It was good to talk to you yesterday. I'm sorry I got back to Fort Worth before we made contact. It looks like three Saturdays from now ( the 25th ) will be the next chance to make it out your way.
And thanks for the close up pics, I can see the goofy brake/steering column brace that you smoothed around. I'm off to see what I can do on mine today, but it's cold as heck and I have to work outside on it!

Oh yeah, I'm glad you got to take a quick spin in 'er, but your inspection and tags are out of date. Wouldn't want you to be ticketed or anything!

Re: my 80 build

sounds good, my dad got on to me for driving it around with no tags, he said you'll get a ticket, I just laughed and I said I didn't put my foot in it.

A little work accomplished, started looming the headlight wiring, installed a horn contact for my billet specialties steering wheel, and pick up a reman wiper motor
before

after

It's getting closer Aaron. Oh, are you going to be home this Saturday morning? I was going to try and make it over there before lunchtime and see your ride in person.

Re: my 80 build

I have already spun the tires 20+ feet but neighbors weren't to happy about I got the vehicle registration and got the truck ready for the safety inspection I drove it about 8 miles filled it up with gas ended up spilling all over place, the while I was driving I slowed down real quick at the traffic light, the truck died and lost complete power for about 10 seconds then every thing came back on and started right when I got back home I founds the positive battery terminal made contact with the battery tray and and burned a hole in the tray and melted the terminal but so fare every thing else look fine, also fixed the fuel filler so it will vent, I did give it a good 3/4 throttle while I was passing a car at 30 mph, the rear end felt light and it chirped the tires when it shifted

Hey Aaron,
It was great to meet you last Saturday and see the the mighty beast in person! Wow, you have really put together a killer ride guy! And again, I want to thank you for having done so much of the research on stuff that I'll need to get to on my POS (I know it won't always be one though). Thanks for giving me your time the other day and congratulations again for having made it to Eagle Scout back when you were younger.
