Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Well, once again - nothing this week...

Wasn't really Keven's fault - shop had 1 guy quit & another out with food poisoning so he had to pick up that slack... King of Hammers race is next week, so they'll all be out at that & as such won't get anything done yet again.

Week after should be productive with any luck - plus Keven will have his welder back from Miller - it went down on him...

Too bad I just started this job (and loven it so far) or I would be all over putting in an application for that job! But then would you really want someone like me working on your truck?

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Well, nothing last week of course as the shop was all but empty for the King of Hammers race... Their all back this week & once everything gets going again they'll be back on my truck. Keven got his welder back, so things should start moving again finally.

Hope to have pics on Friday - we'll see though...

KOH did the same thing to me for the last 3 years!

I like what you have going on with your build! Great attention to detail, it reminds me of how I built my Trailblazer for SEMA...

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Well, the truck is in it's very own space now so Keven can work on it without as many interruptions & keep track of where he is on it MUCH easier!!! So much less danger of it getting damaged now & that is HUGE relief for me!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Keven started work this week on the engine bay fuse block he needed to add in. Still a work in progress & he's going to redesign it to look a lot better once everything is functional.

Speaking of functional, he's got most of the basic electrical stuff working now - the windows roll up & down, headlights & interior lights work, stereo & ignition have power, etc. - so he's getting there! He is having an issue with the push button start & the neutral safety switch for which he's having trouble getting a hold of tech support on...

Next week should be a much better week & he should get at least a solid 3 days to work on it too!!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Man, Keven's catching HELL trying to get the ididit controls to work the power locks through the key fob.... Tech support is all but impossible to get a hold of too!!!

Attempting to get Mario to head up to spend at least part of a day with him solely on my truck so we can get past this stuff & move on. He's supposed to go up this week anyhow to talk about options for the headers, so we'll see.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Well, I did a bunch of searching around online yesterday for Keven some kind of aftermarket fuse/relay block to use & here's some pics of what I came up with for him.

They're from Bussmann (purchased by Keven through Waytek), which is an awesome company & Keven really likes them too - best thing is we can add as many as we need & just line them up on a custom mount on the inner fender. They're also waterproof which is nice as they'll be in the engine bay.

Mario couldn't make it up to the shop today due to a few appointments he had to make at his place, but everything seems set for him to show up there tomorrow & hook up with Keven. He'll probably also end up taking those new Kook's headers back with him to "tweek" them as needed.

Will then of course need to get them re-coated, but would like them to be black ceramic like the exhaust will be anyhow. That'll look better with the painted block & all too!!!

Not sure if I'll get more truck pics tomorrow or not, but hoping so!!! If I do, I'll get 'em posted as fast as I can.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

What are you plans to use the relay/fuse blocks for? Also do you have a link to them somewhere. They look real nice and I might need a few for my build.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Quite a few items need the relay/fuse panels - the new engine has items that will require it & then there are a lot of things we are adding to the truck that it never had - i.e. keyless entry, back-up camera, air compressor, etc.

Subscribed. Funny you mentioned Waytek, I just got my current catalog yesterday after having used an old one for so long. Great company - great stuff!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Mario still wasn't able to make it up dang it... He's in the middle of moving into his new larger shop - which is actually very good news because he would've been unable to get my truck into his old shop with the other projects he had going on.

Keven is stil moving forward - he started work on installing the hydra-boost & master cylinder assemblies & had to make himself a socket for the mounting nut... Also had to fab up a new actuator arm since the pedal assembly was out of a later model truck than mine.

Keven marked the headers where the clearance issues were & took a BUNCH of pics to send to Mario - Trevor will be meeting up with him this weekend to drop those off so he can modify them.

Should be getting quite a fee new pics this next week as he's starting to get going pretty good on it again!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Appreciate the compliments guys!!!

I still will need to get a brushed aluminum trim ring made for it to bolt down with, but that'll probably be pretty easy & won't worry much about that until a little later in the project.

Hoping that Keven will get me some pics early this week of the hydra-boost & master cylinder all mounted up - we'll see though - stay tuned!

Headers are officially in Mario's hands - he'll start modifying them next week though as he's still moving into the new place.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Ok, weekly update has arrived!

First off, here's the "test tank" Keven fab'd up to run my truck off of so we don't have to risk damaging the real fuel tank prior to re-assembly. It uses the actual sender unit that the real tank will have though.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Keven wound up modifying the left rear Mast coil relocation bracket in order to clear the hydra-boost accumulator as you can see in the pics. It sets it at a different angle than the others, but think it turned out really nice & in all honesty there wasn't many other options without going back to the factory style valve covers with top mount coils - YUCK!!!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Ok, so here's what Keven ended up fabricating & coming up with for my accessory fuse/relay & electrical "center" on the driver's inner fender. Still a work in progress, but dang am I liking what I am seeing so far!!!

It's been nice to have such a talented fabricator working on this truck & now that he's actually able to get more time & focus a lot more on the truck since it's in the new shop area away from the hustle & bustle - things are actually starting to happen!!!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

And here's what it all looks like when it's sitting in place on the fender. Wiring's still a mess, but all that will be secured & look really clean once it's all done. Keven's got the same mindset I do know when it comes to that - this has to come out with a certain look & all be VERY clean & tidy!!!
