Re: 72 Cheyenne Super Plain Jane

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. After doing the lower trim only I'm pretty confident that its gonna stay that way. I think upper trim would be pretty cluttered and lower is just right. I ran into a few snags on the truck before I had to head back up to school for the semester. Turns out the booster I ran was bad so I got a replacement mini booster from CPP, I just have to paint it black and bolt it on. Also gotta switch out the sending unit, the float in my old one went bad so I got a new one to replace it. Finally when we were in the final stages of getting the truck on the road we ran into what we thought were some transmission issues. Long story short we pulled the transmission and rebuilt it trying to fix the issue and when we put everything back in the speedo gear got knocked out so I have to go back and fix that. The trans issue ended up being one of the axles was to short and only engaged the first set of spider gears on the posi preventing it from having any moving power. Took us a while to figure it out but we got it haha. I plan on taking the truck to the Goodguys show at the end of October as a final outing before the winter hits and shes stuck in storage. Might have some plans for some winter upgrades but I'll keep that under wraps for now.

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super Plain Jane

looking at your engine compartment and I swear I was looking at mine. SWEET. the only difference I did away with the old style heater box and I am using elibrock valve covers and the orange is really a good choice. I painted mine kubta orange. But good luck and happy driving.

Thanks for checkin in Keith. Nothing really exciting to share on the truck. It's been in storage mode and will likely stay that way until I finish up the school year. I am graduating in May so I will have more time after that to work on it. Depending on where I end up working after graduation I have some changes I want to make to the truck but I have to play it by ear.

Hey Andrew,

Your dad was in the office the other day getting his NASCAR license stuff taken care of. My waiting area is filled with C10 magazines. He saw a C10 Builders Guide sitting on the table and made a comment about building one. At that point I recognized him.

He showed me pics of his project. Pretty sweet! Does he have pics of it on here anywhere?

I gotta swing by and check out the truck before ya drag it off to Asheville!

Thanks for checking in Jeff. Yea he mentioned he saw you the other day, he said you had some magazines and he remembered you from the old suburban you had. I have a few pictures of his green truck I can post up here, he hasn't done a build thread on it yet tho. My truck will probably end up staying in Mooresville for a while, its tough finding a place in Asheville with a garage so I might have to wait a bit.

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super Plain Jane

Here's a couple pictures of my orange truck. I took her out for the first drive of Spring the other week.

I have a short list of things I wanna do in the near future. Ill probably drive it like it is for the summer and then next winter dive into an LS swap, remove the bags from the rear and put 5" drop springs in its place, and remove the Intros and put on some 15" factory steelies with full wheel covers.

My reasoning is I'm never going to be happy with the 22s on the rear unless its laying on the ground, it just has too much rake for me. So instead of cutting up my powdercoated frame to make it lay all the way down I'm gonna make it a low static truck that I can cruise reliably and not have to mess with the carburetor or worry about scratching my shiny billets. Then I'm gonna start a new build with a patina body and slam it all the way down and slap the intros on that truck. Then i will have my shiny pretty truck and my rough and tough patina truck, best of both worlds in my opinion

Looks factory. Very sweet! Who does his metal work? Did he shorten the bed himself?

I have a buddy at Roush who is looking for a '72 pickup, let me know if you come across a solid one.

He does all of his metal work himself, I really like how he did the bed floor raise tho. Most people wont even notice it has been done. On that truck he cut off the rear clip and made one out of square tubing at the correct dimensions for a shorty. He used screw jacks for the spring mounts so they are adjustable and built some drop into the rear clip.
We have a black 72 cheyenne with red interior that is in the works, is he looking for a project or driver?

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super Plain Jane

It's been a while since I've been on here, just wanted to give an update. The truck has been in storage for quite some time now and with me graduating school and moving its been next to impossible to get any work done on it. The house I'm staying in now doesn't have a garage so I've been on the lookout and I think I found a place that I can move into come January that has a garage for me to work out of. I've been saving up a few parts for Jane and I'm eager to get back to working on her. In the meantime here are some pics of how she sits, hopefully I'll have some good progress and lots of driving pics coming up
