Been busy the last few days getting the last bits of electric parts in.
Only problem I have is with the wipermotor.
I will start a new thread on that in the right Electric Pages elswhere on the board

The waterpipes are all in, motor runs again, I made a small film of the start up, but it was only one second long

This was before hell broke loose

Today I put on the rightside fender, now it starting to look like a truck again



Also pulled the doors again to make a nice new hole for the BMW doorlock motors..



This is the rubber grommet I use, it's from a mid '90s Suzuki Alto, works perfect. The first idea what PTC suggested is not going to work with our plastic airlines from the Big Trucks, this because of the radius the door makes when opens. The lines are too hard and then it just bents too much.





Then I have one question for the '58-'59 guys:
Where are all the rubber hoodbumpers go into?
I have two at the cowl, and two at the front/side of the hood, each side one.
I have no more holes to put them in....maybe drill some for the four I have left??

Some of them go on the fender. I think one or two of the holes where the fender bolts to the inner fender is supposed to be used for rubber bumpers instead of bolts.

Put some emblems on today, just for fun



Then I got into the steering rack, I have an oil leak out of the tower.
Put in a new seal, but that didn't solve the leakage.
So I pulled the tower off of the steering rack to take a closer look....









I found out that the tower was already off once in his life...
Probably for the same reason, it is a common item with Jag racks.
Maybe better search for a new part...expensive.

I also ordered a new set of brake calipers, they came in today.
The difference between buying refurbished or DIY refurbish was so close, I don't even thought about doing it myself
That was expensive too, but hey, we're talking brakes and steering, that's a little bit of importance

No one told me either....
And no parts being available here, not even through the Jag dealers, so have to shop in the Land Of Jaguar, the UK, they have parts I can use

No on to find the right parts, I found out there are a few different racks used on these cars.....

Yes, that's why we do a start up before bolting everything together

Was trying to find a complete assembly of the steering pinion, but they are no longer available. Tracked one down in the states...
As there are many different racks used, I mailed a Classic Jaguar dealer in the UK, and see if they will provide me with the correct partsnumbers.

Yes, it does actually.
Today I got the doorlatches in and had the powerlocks working.
I even have back-up switches mounted and working for if the remote stops working (I got no doorkeys)
Hope to get the doors done completely tommorow, with all glass in it too
Lot of work, but hey, you've got to set goals right??

I still haven't got parts for the steeringrack, could be a week or more before that arrives. Problem is that there are different racks used on my donorcar, luckily the partsnumbers and serialplate was intact, so now the big gentleman at Jaguar is searching what should be in it.
We'll wait
Therefor I can't build the complete frontend....just to get at the steeringrack.

I was hoping to get it drivable before the first week of Juli, then I got to drive my little cousin to her graduation. Would be nice

I was thinking of rebuiling the whole rack. I haven't found much information on full rebuild though. I bought some jag workshop manuals, not as informative as I would like.
If you find any rebuild info I hope you can share.

I found out that Jaguar no longer has the parts available but you can find it on eBay, aftrmarket stuff.
There are some companies the will refurburbish your rack and pinion. I got two of those companies, one in the UK and one in good ol' Holland. Jaguar recommended! And at the costs of almost a new one....
I mailed a Classic Jaguar dealer (official Jag) in the UK, they replayed very quick and gave me the addresses.
But....I will try first myself, to do only the tower, the rest wasn't leaking.

I'm doing good Lower!
Burns are healing very good, I hardly notice it. It is still wrapped up all the time to hold it "greasy"

Update time!!!
Got the doors all in one piece, latches, locks, all is working, even the signallights when locking or unlocking
Therefor I had to solder a diode in the positive current line from the lockcomputer to the rear turnsignals.
Otherwise I had brakelights up front
You don't need them there, right

Doorglass and ventwindows in, ofcourse that didn't go without hurting some other parts. Did use some tape to protect the paint, but the truck thought otherwise. Good thing the scratches are at the inside

I will be making some new doorcards, I saved the old red ones that came with the truck, they can be used as a template.

Oh forgot something important...

I have asked this at the Electrical Side of the forum, but didn't get any feedback on it.
So I was hoping some of you are genius electricians with wipermotors and switches.

This is what I have done:

Benchtesting according this diagram:



I have two wipermotors, one from a VW Golf II(Rabbit) and one from a '77 VW T2b.
If I turn the switch from 0 to slow, the motor turns, turn off switch, motor goes to Park.
So that's good!

If I switch from slow to fast, the motor turns slower than slow??
Turning from fast to slow, it tuns at his normal slow speed again, which is faster than the high speed. Turn from slow to off, the motor goes to Park.
Both wipermotors do the same thing.
I have had a wiperrelay between the switch and motor, acts the same.
And no, I didn't switch the wires between H and L!!
(only to test if I was wrong....)

Where does it go wrong?
Are both motors bad, I mean have the same issue?? It could be by accident...
Or is the diagram bad??

I have tested the switch, that works okay.
It switches this way:

B>L = Slow speed
B>H = High speed
B>P = goes to Park
All this with about 0,4 internal Ohm resistance, it's ok.

I also got this diagram, I only have no 53e? Or is this the "same" as 31b?
I would say, where the brown wire is, is connection 31??
They use an extra "normal" relay in the ground wire...Probably to get it into the Park position?



This last one I haven't tried yet, because of the 53e connection. Don't know which that is.
So if you have any clues, please throw them at me!!!

OR, if some one have a diagram that I could use???

Hi Kees.... electrical....

Why the relay? -- thing only draws like 3-5amp total from low to high speed. These are usually directly wired.

Dont know if thtis is your motor, but Heres a diagram of the terminal points.... maybe what you need?

But I think I got figured it out yesterday. Took a couple of hours though....
Normally you use the upper diagram above, PTC is right, it is just directly wired.
The slow speed and park position worked normal, only when switched to high speed things went wrong. Motor stopped turning.
After measuring current, it looks like when switch from low to high speed, both that terminals stays on 12V? This is measured at the terminals at the wipermotor.

So I thought if I put in a relay to switch to high speed, and cut off the current to the low speed, all must working again...
I tried it and it worked great, on the bench that is....
Monday testing in the truck, draw a diagram for you of what I did and let you know the outcome
That are same days struggling wipermotor wiring

After this is working alright, I can finally finish the dash, connect the heater and finish further inside.
Things are going fast now

Last week went not as we wanted to.

First the wipers, they won't coorperate at all, so I went the easy way for now.
Slow and high speed, and off where he likes
I can live with that.

Next, steering rack.....
Got the new parts in and put all new rings and seals where neccesary.
But, with this English build High Performance Parts, still leaking.

I did get the new PFTE rings nicely around the steering tower and resized them as needed:





Didn't work out.
Now on the hunt for another steering rack.

Yesterday and today I went on and put the front end together.





Today all electrics in and see if it works the way it should....



That was good news!!
All worked as intended

Next on the list is the inside, benchseat in and see where the brackets for the seatbelts have to come.
Further with insulation, some other small things.
And get it on it's wheels and set the rideheight

Then the fun begins

I'm crawling towards "The End" of this episode.
Then it's a lot of small things, get all the bugs out and really have fun with it!!
