Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
That's it they swapped all of Blues diffs eand all the running gear to the new frame. A local trans shop built a new trans the old one shattered in the accident.

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
ouch! looks like a hard hit...some kind of pole or something?
did not know about an accident Dale, that's too bad at least part of Ol Blue lives on... don't have any model pics at the moment, but i did go on a 200 mile trek today...with a couple hrs ferry ride thrown in as well. figures...no snow at all this winter so far...till today...(naturally...) after driving for an hr still in it... lots of spun out cars and fender benders everywhere today, including this one right in front of me. i turn left at these lights and go down a pretty steep hill to the ferry terminal at the bottom...the sedan had a hard time getting going from a stop at the lights, was spinning his tires like crazy but could'nt get out of the way fast enough for the suv sliding down the hill....t-bone right in front of me.....sedan should have had winters or at least all seasons on, could have got out of the way then... that's my boat... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
weather was just as bad on the water. went upstairs to get some pics but the outer decks were all closed because "the snow makes them slippery...."
as you can see there is jack for snow on the decks, but it's frikkin cold anyways, low 20's with wind blowing 30-50 mph and visibilty was mostly zero so i went back to my truck (i got a "window" seat) and tried to take some pics of the waterfalls and cliffs on the gulf islands...again vis was pretty much nothing so i played with my thumbs for an hour... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
and here's why i spent 6 1/2 hrs of my day off driving in filthy weather.....
been wanting a CUCV brush guard for a long time, their a little more rare up here north of the border, and this one is pretty mint. only wanted the guard, but had to take it all, for $250. the d-shackle mounts i will prob use. i have a 5/16 thick angle plate across the front of my frame for my front trailer hitch receiver that i'll bolt them to cause i will be using my chrome bumper and i'm not cutting big square holes in it for them... also got the stainless package for my box yesterday, bed sides, t-gate protector, and bulkhead protector re-did my door panels... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
was never crazy how the cucv brush guards have just a piece of strap steel on the front between the mounts. there always bent.
my 9" lights would not fit anywhere on the cucv, so i cut out the middle bar carefully, drilled some holes for my lights and welded it across the piece of strap steel. the guard feels way more solid and less "bendy" now, and picks up the "loop" design nicely i think some eye candy at my buddy's body shop.. |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
ya, but it's melting fast....till tomorrow, supposed to get another couple inches ...then sun for a few days
last sat we rolled my crew back into the shop and took out the winda's and popped off the door handles...little more sanding and it's good to go.... finished my cucv guard. i left as much as the military paint on as i could- good stuff whatever it is, then red oxide'd it and painted it with some satin epoxy paint...but it's not very satin-e i think.....hopefully it'll keep the rust at bay for awhile buddy's K20 we were looking at is kinda a no-go. his friend served in Afghanistan, 5/4 ("trailer park boyz"), that's what the 5/4 on the front fender of his K20 stands for, as well as a CF badge and flag. his intention is to give it to his buddy- for free. so i threw him the cucv bumper and d-shackles that i just picked up. he really wanted the guard, but no way so his other friend has this 1/2 ton for sale. one yr newer than mine, '86, 350/700r4, tilt, a/c, new dashpad, newer paint, everything works. going to look at it this sat, son likes it and ya, it's not a chebby, but i got bored and am putting this TBD Devastator together. wife bought me 6 small planes the other yr....finally doing something with them... the finish is from Torpedo 5 (VT-5) from the USS Yorktown (CV-5) just before WW2 once it's all together and painted i'll hit it with some dull-cote to tame down the brightness of the paint |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
was moving some stuff and found 2 un-opened packs of "metal siding" plastic sheet....hmmm...what can i do wit it....(ya, this ain't a chebby either...lol)
back in the '70's my folks had a 22' Prowler travel trailer, sooo.... only prob is i have to try go completely off memory, no pics of it (house fire) found a pic of one online that looks very similar to what my dad owned breaking completely of my tradition of "eyeball engineering", i actually drew up a quick template for this one and a frame/plumbing layout cut up some pieces.... ...and see how it fits |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
snow day today...did some work on the prowler to pass the time. glue has just been flyin'..lol
soon as i stuck my pieces together it was quite obvious the winda's were too large, except the rear one which was too small. not having any more siding left i had to scab in some pieces....and opened up the rear one some |

Goodness you are busy. I was in the hospital so I have fallen behind.....I like the grill guard, it looks great with the lights mounted. I like the K10, it looks like it's been loved. I always enjoy you're model building. The prowler is going to be cool.

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
a little more Prowler work.
was digging threw spare junk and found this grey thing, so i added some styrene to it and it will become the rooftop a/c unit. installed the other inner fender, made a door. found a panel with 3 sq door handles in the junk pile, wish i had 1 more for all the storage boxes, and made a flip down step under the door got the bumper on and a spare tire...could'nt belive it, but i also found a "vinyl"spare tire cover in my junk pile...where it came from is beyond me, but i'll take it...lol started a jack, got the tailwheel from an airplane that will go on it once i got the length. have'nt found any scale propane tanks, so i started scratching some out of exacto blade containers, round glass from airplane bomber turrets, and some styrene. i'll wait till there done and see how they turn out, if they look like cr*p i'll make a tank cover... and my ever-so-smart wifey found a place that makes 1/25 scale doll house stuff...so i got a fridge, sink, stove, bathroom set up and cabinets coming, and cheap, less than 30 clams... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
took me a couple days, but i just read all 37 pages of this. wow
you put more attention into these models than a lot of people put into fullsize trucks lol. i tried my hand at modeling a couple years ago, but pretty much box stock. id like to build something that resembles my first truck (ferd) but it would involve splicing a couple trucks (cabs) together and im not sure my skill level will agree with that. on that note, would you say there is always a big difference between 1/24 and 1/25? or does it vary model to model? the easier option for getting back into it would be doing dads first car, 76 nova- still has it. but it has a excessively striped paint job that would be a real bear to recreate. |

wow, you actually read all 37 pages...lol
you know, if you want to build models, you picked a golden time in modeling, manufactors have been coming out with some cool new releases lately, and the aftermarket/resin casting parts business is exploding. you can get just about anything or any part for your models now a days. waaay easier to detail up or modify kits today than 20-40 yrs ago here's a pretty good list of aftermarket sellers.. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/t...ket-directory/ like i say, don't be afraid to try a funky paint job, you can even get stripe and flame masks for your models, like these ones from the Lazy Modeler truly is a good time to be building...you like fords?, Model King has come out with a whole line of '69-'72 fords recently |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
if i was going to build a ford, this would be my choice...
if your looking for a '70's era ford, pickings are kinda slim, AMT makes one, but unfortunately they picked the super rare and super ugly long wheelbase camper special. i have seen a couple of these trucks where guys move the rear wheels up to where they should be and it looks much better... and there is some '80's and '90's, lots of versions, most are just re-boxed, or have new decals added, but there all basically the same. there's also the "melted brick" fords from the mid '90's that Revell puts out and of course there's the super expensive, but super nice F350 Super Duty that Meng Models is cranking out http://www.internetmodeler.com/scale...uty-Pickup.php if you do buy a Meng, watch out, they also make a 1/35 version of the s.d. and it's much cheaper than the 1/24 kit speaking of, i reg swap 1/24 and 1/25 parts. it's always a cr*pshoot on fitment, what's 1/24 for revell, may be diff than 1/24 amt, sometimes 1/24 from diff man. will fit right into another makers 1/25....like i say, some fit, quite often some mods are needed but mostly, you need to build chevy's... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
The truck I've got is a 95 extended cab flareside, so Im thinking I would combine the amt regular cab flareside and the extended cab f350. But that involves getting the 92 front on the 91 cab. If I get them both next to each other and they dont look like a good match, I'll just build them both the way the box intended lol.
And the Nova isnt necessarily complicated, just a lot of narrow stripes |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
So if wanted to build a 62 short fleet side with 63-66 frame with a 61 grille what kits do I need to buy to piece it all together?

hey, if the paint job don't turn out, just throw it in some Super Clean or DOT 3 and give it another try. if you have a printer you could always print up some stripe decals. why not get 1 AMT '92 ford flareside, and 1 AMT '92 ford fleet snapper, cut the back wall off 1 cab and cut a bigger back half off the second cab to make your S/C. it's not really all that difficult to do and would line right up. you will need to use both int tubs for the stretch, if you get the snap kit, it will give you the longer frame you need as well a cheap snapper |

is do-able, but not 100% accurate unless you do some grille mods, have not seen any '61 resin grilles around. i would use the AMT '60 chev for the cab and fleetside bed, and it has a pretty nicely detailed frame. lucky, amt is just re-releasing the '60 chev, with the go-kart and the revell 64, 65 or 66 chev will give you the hood you need, and the frame you want (but i still think the '60's frame is nicer) if you want to go cheap, i would just buy the '60 chev, and i got a later hood you can have... or if you want to go expensive, you could try find one of the super rare amt '62 chev or one of their even rarer '62 promo's, but then you have to shorten the box, it's an 8 footer. and too bad Modelhaus shut down, they were making a very nice resin '62 chev shortbox. rarely do i see them for sale, and they usually command a big buck |

Will the later revell hoods fit the amt 60 chevy good?

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
there both 1/25 and fit perfectly. i have swapped numerous parts between these 2 kits
the only thing to make the later hood fit is to cut off the hood hinges, the '60 does not have pockets for the hinges |
