Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

dang... looking good!

what was the reason for painting the cab with fenders attached? can't say i've ever seen it that way
scott seams to have theme going on, is his finger stuck that way? 🖕
i heard the same shiny dash comments with truk, never bothered me
this yellow paint i used sort of requires sunglasses, even at night

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

Thanks Ogre,

The complete front end is welded to the cab...inner fenders to outers, inner fenders to firewall, fender to cab seam...all fully welded and smoothed.

Why the fully welded components? I guess you could say it's a unibody.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

i have the same headlights in my TJ and love em, they'll be going in the 55 too. but i hope to actually wire up the DRL and turn in the 55 ... with the big factory blinkers, you planning to run either?

side thought, you have 4 of them vs my 2. that's going to be AMAZING to drive at night for you, but not so much the oncoming traffic!!

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

My son wants to hook up the DRL and use the grill signals...probably do that. We've got the slightly larger ones in our 66 burb...they're definitely bright!

Thanks Kevin!

Our glass guy broke down the side and vent windows, we powder coated the frames semi gloss black, and he reassembled windows/doors with all new components and fresh smoked glass.

Daytime running lights are a newer vehicle and safer idea, I get that. What would you use if you DIDN'T use the "grill signals"? Maybe I'm not understanding your comment.

These LED headlights have high/low, DRL, and amber signals. The amber can override the DRLs when blinker/hazards are activated.
The center horizontal bar that you can see is the white DRL and/or amber signal...depending on how we wire it.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

So, the white horizontal "bars" in the middle of each light could go amber...I'm kinda thinking that's a lot going on and maybe too redundant on top of the grill turn signals.

Shooting for this weekend.

We fired the engine this week, just for 30 seconds or so...found a few issues with leaking lines and some cracked fittings. All in all, very minor probs that were quickly remedied...no major issues that would hold us from setting the cab on the chassis.

We sourced some billet handles from LS-Fab out of Canada...really like the fit and finish of those.

We fit the visor to the cab...that was one of the pieces that we were anxious to see back on the cab...I'm digging it!

Still cut and buffing on the hood...couple more hours on that and it goes on the cab before fitting everything onto the chassis.
