Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
hello Mike, everything is good and im sure glad the holidays are over, but any how im taking a break away from the project meanwhile i save some more funds. All i am waiting on is the stall converter and the taller valve covers to complete the engine build then after its built i will go ahead and start the paint and drop the engine, much easier this way and not have to worry about damaging any of the paint or body.
How is your project coming along?

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
I did install a lockar hood prop. Its adjustable at 3 stops so i could open the hood and set it on the low for a teaser of the goods inside

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
these are a few of the finished interior. Looks clean and its still functional and structurally sound, wont fall apart at high speeds 120+mph

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
Thanks for sharing that looks good, it did cross thrugh my head to incorporate the vette vents but honestly as far as body mods go i am now done with, i dont want to keep back tracking doing more work, i can still incorporate the corvette them in other areas such as like painting the front and rear bumpers or the exhaust exit, interior etc.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
I finally came around ordering the rest of the engine components to finish the build. I ordered a B&M 3000 stall converter, taller valve covers, and since Im already cracking open the engine i went and got new rear main seal and front crank seal. i aslo got some lapping compound to lap valves. Hopefully i get this in before week end to start the build.

Started the disassembly got as far as removing trans from eng and eng mounted to stand. I fitted the new B&M converter and it fits like it should, with spec. Clearances and gear tooth matching. Posted via Mobile Device

The blue is not paint it's a removable layer of what appears like latex. You remove before install. I will be also replacing the seal inside the trans. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
Got further along today i almost have the block bare, still need to break down bottom end, crank section, and the springs off the heads. I will completely over haul and rebuild this engine to avoid further problems down the line.worst case scenarios after it has been installed it would be very tricky to pull out without causing damage to body and paint and facing panel alignment issues.
Had a chance to take some good pics not using my phone. i will try and take more pics with camera, its just a drag to be in the middle of something and stop and completely wash and dry hands to handle the camera

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
valve stem seals where a ***** to pull out intact without damage, and this is using the correct tool. if you plan on reusing these for whatever reason take extra care be gentle they are fragile. I found that adding a penetrant lube then start them with a pry then wiggle them out with pull tool worked best for me

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
Got further along, Heads are clean and valves are cleaned and lapped i also installed bottom retainers and the valve stem seals. Pistons are clean and cylinders are honed, deck is also clean. i installed the cam and the link lifters will eliminate the guide trays, and the new double roller at 0 no advancing or retarding . Need to degree cam, then check PTV clearance i should be good since i'm at .560 anything above .600 will cause interference issues.
