Re: 68 S/C update.....

Rob is that the F-Body pan? And also what is that sensor for in the side of the oil pan. Is it a crank sensor or something? Sorry for the stupid questions, I'm a LS newb. Just trying to learn more.

No worries Keith - The pan is from an 07 Cadillac CTSV. Here is a picture of a truck pan, caddy pan and f-body pan. The sensor you asked aobut is for the oil level in the pan. The crank sensor is either on the front or the rear on the motor depending on the LS version (Gen I-V).

No problem Keith. If you check out my Shifted build thread, I used a FBody pan with the extreme PB dropmember.

Yeah I know Nate recommends to use the f-body pan with the dropmembers but I never saw a picture to show the difference in the pans until you posted it up. Now I know why he recommends the f-body pan.

Re: 68 S/C update.....

Progress!! I've been waiting on a tool to install the crank hub and it finally showed up today. So I go it installed and I finally got all the parts and pieces for the bracket setup bolted on. So after 4 trips to different parts store, I finally found a belt long enough to fit (120", ). Before I said what I was doing, the guy at O'Reilly's said "you must be putting this on a supercharger...." . Anyways, here's a some pictures.

, yeah this belt is longer than the one in my 2500 HD turbo diesel, .

Today I made a pattern for a bracket that helps support the snout of the supercharger. I just need get a buddy to machine it out of .25 aluminum and this part of the motor swap will be done, .

Re: 68 S/C update.....

I got the supercharger snout support bracket back from my machinest for a test fit. I still need to clean it up but it fits great. I thought about adding something in the middle to break up the big piece of aluminum, but I'm not sure what I should put in there....suggestions?

Re: 68 S/C update.....

Could go with a simple bowtie!

Might consider a name. (Does the truck have a "name"?)

Add a simple pattern to it, wouldn't "open" it up, but it would break up the broad, flat expanse of the bracket.

Re: 68 S/C update.....

How about matching the pattern and texture of the Alt bracket or go black to match the SC.

I don't see any reason to window the bracket just leave it like it is.
The supercharger emblem would have been a good idea if the belt didn't run right through that area.

Re: 68 S/C update.....

Can you cut a "window" in the bracket to make it less bulky, without losing strength?
How thick is it?

Thought about a Bow tie. Truck isn't named so can't go there.... thanks!

Alt and a/c brackets are forged pieces from Holley, so I really can't match them. I could paint it black though....

Keith, it's a 1/4" aluminum. There's a piece that bolts on just below the s/c snout, so I'm not sure I could cut it out without maintaining the strength. I'll have to ask my machinist. I thought about having another one waterjetted out of stainless, the cutout would probably work then.

You could do three triangles without loosing strength and get the same appearance as what Keith has drawn up. Two on the outside upright and the middle one inverted. Just a suggestion.
