Keep it like it is but chop it! I always wished I would have kept the fenders on my 36... Don't get me wrong I loved it but there's a reason they started putting fenders on cars!

Thanks Brother...
And I can relate to the fenders idea… not so much with cars, but with a motorcycle I had way back when... The NO fender look was cool, but not so much when the road decided to get wet...

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

I think you should bring it up and drop it off at my place.....one cool truck. I've looked at one down the road from my folks on the county line. Been on the farm since new. Farmers son said his Dad bought it new.....beds been off and gone for some time he said.....can't remember where it went to, but the rest of its there and solid. Its been under a barn for the last 30 years. And he won't let it go, but said he'd call me 1st if he changed his mind. My folks get their hay from him.

Would trade it for that 427 trans combo...

Seriously though, I am going to keep it as is, chop the top, get it drivable and flip it for the previously mentioned garage fund… I really need to build a shop and put in a 2 post lift, I am no longer a fan of crawling around under vehicles...
That's the plan anyway...

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

My 4th was spent with some truck time and some Honey-Do's thrown in...

Started the day off making sparks...

Just about completed the driver's door… got the mirror holes finished out and that area in primer… Finished grinding the nails for the hole filling… following the grinding, and a skim coat of filler, more sanding, a skim coat of Glaze…
THANKS JMo!!! I called it a day, didn't finish sanding the door… After all it's the 4th and there was some fried chicken and a cold drink calling my name…

A little progress, but progress nonetheless...

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Started getting ready for the frame swap…
Started off by clearing floor space in the shed by finishing the bodywork on the Driver's door and getting the worked areas into primer…
Pulled the motor and trans from the tweaked frame, then played musical chairs with the frame and cab...
Got the cab in the Work Area, ready to start some metal and body work to get ready for primer...

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Thanx Brotha!!! Missed your call yesterday...

Had a crazy day yesterday, Was woke up at 0430 and then unable to get back to sleep…Then after doing my first tattoo, my son Jeremy called, he and his fiancé' were stranded in a local grocery store parking lot with a broken Alternator belt… Soooooo, the hottest day of the year so far, I was lucky enough to help him change the belt... Seriously Black Blacktop, and not a cloud in the sky… and of course, NO SHADE!!!

All that just to explain that after a slow start this morning… it was off to the farm to change the oil in the Boss' Honda, then TRUCK TIME!!!

Got the tarp off the cab, prepping for the metal work and bodywork that lays ahead…
Then put the Passenger door on the work table (2 Sawhorses and 2 2x6's) and proceeded to get the mirror holes filled... 16 penny nail heads fit perfectly...

Oh Yeah, today beat out yesterday for the hottest day so far, 98 F and extremely humid, Heat index was 104 F...
Thankful for fans...
Here are some pics of the mirror holes…Before, during and after…
Next step is sanding the entire door looking for any other areas that may need addressing...
Stay COOL Guyz and Galz!!!

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Thanks Guys...

The nail head idea hit me while I was preparing to fill the custom trim holes on the Driver's Door I picked up… I wasn't looking forward to cutting 6 little plugs with my cutting wheel, so I started searching my plethora of junk in coffee cans... Seems I have trouble throwing anything away… I may be able to use that later mentality came from my early days in the military and my boss who was the king of hoarding…
…Anyway, when I moved the bucket of 16 penny nails, that rarely gets touched due to my purchase of a framing nailer, and the proverbial light bulb lit... So I grabbed a nail for a test fit, and BOOM, fit perfectly...:
A quick cleanup on a wire wheel and then break out the
Spark Makers!!!

As for stealing that idea, that's one of the perks of this board… I have stolen quite a few and am happy to share my ideas, so that they may be stolen...
