Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Once the front ends off and the crossmembers in I can get the hole drilled in the crossmember for the cpp mounts in the rear location. Trim frame rails for header clearance and check valve cover clearance.

Thanks I appreciate it. It feels great to finally get to the point of doing the swap. And looking forward to a little more go in the gas pedal!!!

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Had fun getting to look around at all the parts. I wish I could have stayed to pull the engine, but friends were making homemade pizza. Hopefully I can get back over and help with the rest of the install...Oh and helicopter mechanic not pilot. I actually work.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Got a little mre truck time in today. Got the driveshaft removed, transmission and bellhousing. Was able to do a few coats of degreasing and get the frame cleaned up real nice. Ground down the rivet heads to remove the frame linkage. Then groud down the rivets to clean the frame up. Pulled all of the rear brake lines and disconnected the system from the mc. I'll pull the front lines with the crossmember once the front end is removed. Then applied a good coat of rust converter/sealer/inhibitor to protect the frame. I want at least one more coat, I normally do 2 and 2 coats of paint with great success.
I feel good with 1st weekend work. Little tired from all the work and jumping in and out of the truck for 2 days, but its getting there. We've got a few days of rain coming so may be a few days before i get the front end off.

Cab looks ok from the bottom....driver side will need inner/outer rocker, lower a piller, toe boards and cab corners and cab supports...which was to be expected. Pass side is a little better, but will pretty much get the same treatment.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Thanks TJ. Slowly but surely it'll get there. I have a buddy coming over this week to help pull the front end sheet metal. Then I can drop the cross member. Have already cleaned the front frame pretty good. Just the areas I can't reach left, but I'll have good access pretty soon.

Yeah...wish it was like the 1 hour tv shows, but then reality steps in and it'll be time consuming. I've always been a fan of the little projects because they do add up. Especially with my work load and I'm never sure where my time will open up.

Fuel pump was replaced about 4k miles back. Carb was replaced w/ a Holly remanufactured 1bbl Rochester a year ago. Pertronix II was installed 2 years ago w/matching coil. You've seen the engine, so you pretty much know what it entails. I've never had to do any major work to it....ie. take the head or oil pan off. I will be keeping the alternator (its the same part # for my 348 "w" block, but the brackets will go with the engine. The transmission will need a home too. Muncie mc318 non-synchronized 3 speed. I have a few pics of the engine I can post for you.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Got home late last night and saw the UPS guy beating feet down the driveway at a fast pace. Looked to the left and figured out why. Exhaust kit came in .....and obviously out somewhere. Looks like the box was ripped completely in half and half ass taped back up. And the exhaust pipe was stuck completely out of the box. Took pics for reference...and did inventory. All parts there except for a few bolts that will cost $4-5 at home depot to replace so I'm not filing a claim and going through all the hassle, but UPS will get a call today. 2nd box in a week with damage. 1st was the broken column parts and now this.
Always glad to have parts show up, but man it sucks to walk out and see a box in this shape.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
The exhaust kit was all there except for a few bolts. Test fit everything and no damage to the pipes, hardware or mufflers. Looks like a great kit. The "H" pipe is already welded and the price was right. We'll see how install goes with mods as its advertised as a 66-72 kit. So e-brake is the only issue that should pop up, but we'll deal with that when the time comes. I do have to get a different part to mount to the "ball flange" style headers I have, but they seem available through Summit and Jegs.
The storms kept me in last night, but I was able to degrease and strip the two bellhousing pans so I can get them prepped for paint. So at least it wasn't a total loss of a night.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
UPS is nothing but a bunch of overcharging idiots. They charge almost twice as much as fedex for longer shipping time and to damage your packaging. But at least you got your kit an its fitting good. If you had lost some parts though I'd still file a complaint against them. Time to start changing some of this carelessness.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
I've done the whole file a claim thing in the past with UPS....very time consuming and a big PITA. I'll definitely contact them but for $5 in parts I'll replace them myself.
At least it wasn't NOS parts like the last episode. Lost a factory passenger side cast iron mirror arm and an offset mirror head. They delivered an empty box.....

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Got on Summit this morning and ordered the Hedman header reducers. Part # 21115 for the 3" inlet and 2.5" outlet ball/socket and costs was only $25.92 shipped. So this should wrap up the exhaust minus tips if I decide to install them.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
i appreciate the compliments. work has been at a stand still due to the storms. had a flash flood come through earlier and the creek in my front yard went up 2' in less than an hour. washed out over the driveway and took a few inches of crush and run with it. got some pretty good size hail too. but hopefully it'l pass in a day or so and i can get the driveway fixed and back on the truck. im ready to get the front end off and front crossmember dropped. its my weeks goal.
i cant wait to get her back on the road and its only been a few days.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
I ordered the Thrush kit (although its all got Dynomax stickers) # WLK-89027 through Summit racing. Was $245.97 with free shipping. Did take about a week to arrive since it came from their west coast warehouse. Its a great looking kit and the pipes fit together nice. Don't know how it sounds yet, but we''' know in a few weeks. I'll run the mufflers that came with the kit, I can always change them if I don't like them. All hardware and the mufflers come with, but they do come with the flat style flange fittings for headers. I ordered some ball style flanges to go with my Hedman headers. Advertised for 1966 - 1972 small block and big block 2wd trucks, so I figured it couldn't be to far off of a fit for the 63.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Heres a few pics of our flash flood in the front yard last night. Got kinda close to the carport where the stepside is. Neighbors been there 55 years and says its been 25 years since its gotten that high here. I normally have about 6-8" of water and it takes almost 3' to crest the road like it did.
The pic of Hardees is about 10min down the road from me.
