Man, Big Brother is watching me! I swear I just barely posted that.

I looked at putting it under the dash thinking it would be slick and easy but, there just wasn't room without moving the whole cable towards the transmission. I decided that was going to be more work than running the wire to the transmission.

Then the whole adapter saga started with only half of it showing up and the other half back ordered.

It's so hard to feel like one is making progress these days.

Which speed sensor are you using and what is the purpose of the second speed sensor?
Thank you, TNANG

Re: Working Man's Burbon

Could your Burb be any more dialed in? Great work and write up on the carb.

So
What is the purpose of the speed sensor and even a second one? Are you adding cruise control?

EXCELLENT!!! Can't wait to start getting my Q-Jet dialed in. It starts pretty easily after sitting all night, and just the short little trips I've taken it seems OK. We'll see soon.

The second speed sensor is a Dakota Digital and it is for a transmission lockup controller that PJmoreland developed and graciously has loaned to me to test. The link is to his thread.

Thanks Joe. Are they ever completely dialed in?

No cruise control control I just need to get my transmission lockup working correctly.

After getting mine back on the road, I pulled the 71 jets out of my Q-Jet, and replaced them with 70 jets. My lil 307 is much happier for the change.

Re: Working Man's Burbon

I MADE FLAT RATE TODAY!

Yesterday I noticed something shiny hanging off the front of the WMB. Closer inspection revealed I had lost a bolt from the sway bar mounting strap. I started to reshape the strap when it dawned on me I might have a spare strap. After a bit of scrounging around the shop I located a similar replacement strap.(Photo #2)

The replacement strap doesn't have any provision for greasing the bushing. So I cut the little nub off the bushing (Circled in photo #3) and drilled a hole in the strap on the front side so I can use a U-joint grease gun adapter. (Arrow in photo #3)

The original mounts had zerks in the lowest part and I kept tearing them off on parking curbs. This should work better.

I believe the reason the bolt fell out was the cheesy washers the mounts came with. Going back together I used heavy duty washers and nylock nuts. That should cure any future problems. I will do the same to the other side after a trip to the hardware store to get some more 1" bolts.

Anyway it was under an hour to get the repair done.

Re: Working Man's Burbon

Sorry for the cliffhanger posting. I thought I would be adding some installed photos later that day but, things did quite work out as I expected. After I got the new seat installed and sat on it I realized the foam cushion was way too tall.

Compared to the old seat I was now sat about 3 or 4 inches higher. When I sat straight and looked directly ahead I was looking at where the window seal meets the sheet metal. Obviously that wasn't going to work so I called the upholstery shop and they said to bring the seat back to them and he would take 2 inches of foam out of the cushion.

So out with the new and in with the old! Ugh! Now more waiting for the upholstery shop!

But before I put the old seat back in I needed to repair the frame. Months ago my buddy was riding in the truck and decided he needed something out of his pocket so he pushed against the back with his legs and BANG! The seat broke. In the months since with one side broke the drivers side eventually cracked and now the back now moves back and forth a couple of inches.

After 4 hours of messing around with hammers, clamps, grinders and the welder I had the old seat repaired and installed. No photos of that part of the dog and pony show as I was racing to finish the repairs before dark. The next day I dropped the new seat off for the foam height adjustment.

Fast forward to yesterday and here is the adjusted seat installed. It is still a bit too tall as I'm looking through the tinted strip across the top of the window. I'm hoping the foam will soften up some with use. If not I may have to modify the mounts to lower the seat an inch.

Outside of that that the seat is nice and comfortable. The old lady even commented on how much better it feels than the old one. Big win there!

Seat looks great! The color is about like the one I used in my suburban. I like the insert you went with for it. Its always nice to have a comfy seat.

Re: Working Man's Burbon

Thank you! The inserts are the 72 factory Highlander Grey plaid. I went for the "What if there were 67 Highlanders" vibe.

I was surprised how un-grey the Grey fabric is but the color seems to change between goldfish and Grey depending on lighting.

I now need to finish prepping the back seat mounting brackets and get them installed with the matching seats.

Re: Working Man's Burbon

Fold flat rear seat ... Early on in this thread someone mentioned when they installed the fold flat seat they had to move the front seat all the way forward for the rear to fold flat. Now you mentioned you were over 6ft, has this been the way it works for you having to move the drivers seat all the way forward to get the rear to fold flat? Or is your way of mounting the rear seat different than the other fella did his? Having the drivers moved all the way forward would be a no go for me and you're taller than I am.

I don't believe the other truck (I think it was AverageJoe's) had the factory bench seat it in. I ran into the same problem when I tried to use 2013 GMC buckets in mine. I couldn't lay the rear seats down flat without the front seat being completely forward and forcing the lower cushion to compress (2nd photo). I didn't think I could have driven the truck with it that way. The factory bench seat lets me have the front seat all the way back and still lets the rear set fold flat. (1st photo)

Re: Working Man's Burbon

Some progress photos on the rear seats. Man I will say any savings GM saw when they went from a wood floor to a sheetmetal floor was more than eaten up by the 2nd row seats. There must be a hundred parts to them.

One really pleasant surprise has been how close the green upholstery and the powder coated seat backs match. I didn't have a sample of the new upholstery when I took the backs into be powder coated, so I just tried to match the old upholstery. I most certainly got lucky with that guess.
