Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Musical cabs again. This should be the last time I take it off. I am preparing to paint the firewall and interior this weekend and once that is dry, back on she goes for the last time.
That 4 by 4 has a huge bow in it, I picked it at the Home Depot and got it half price. They thought I was nuts for wanting it at all. It almost goes to flat when I lift the cab with it - perfect!

I looked back and page 7 shows the first cab corners I installed which were junk, also on page 7 it shows the good ones compared to a second set of bad ones I got off ebay. I am just now getting around to installing them.

Also page 7 shows the gas filler neck mods.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Somethings not right. (first pic)

It was such a beautiful day, we worked outside. I wiped all 4 cuts with a THIN layer of Bondo and got out the air file (in line sander). This is a fantastic time saving tool which really makes body work turn out nice. Unless you only have a tiny spot to fix the orbital sander you probably have is the wrong tool, and will only lead to waves of frustration. The thinner/closer to the final shape you can spread it the less you will have to take off with the sander. Sand it down fairly flat, but don't try for perfection, if you do it will end up too low and need another coat. Any high spots in the metal will show up easy as bare metal, get out your hammer and dolly and tap the high spots down with the dolly behind. You are looking for a real solid sound, you'll know it when the dolly is directly behind your blow. For spots you can't get behind you'll just have to tap/dent it down and fill with Bondo.

Cab is now back on the rolling cart and in the final stages of sanding in preparation for painting the fire wall and interior. I love my rolling cart - so handy.

Nice progress. Today was a great day here for weather and progress

With how fast you're going....you might as well put that fourth door in before you jamb the cab

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Just a side bar on Dynamat. I found it installed on my donor truck, and it really is amazing how well it deadens the interior. On a newer model truck though, it probably doesn't add that much since they are so well insulated from the factory. On our trucks, I am sure the difference will be nothing short of amazing.

Since I was too cheap to buy the name brand Dynamat, I was worried my Eastwood Brand would be only a poor copy and not as good or effective. I was very pleasantly surprised when I compared the two and realized the Eastwood brand was actually thicker. I'll assume with sound deadening material that thicker is better, right? And it is about half price of the name brand stuff!!!

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Thicker isn't always better on the soundproofing...the dynamat is the extreme version. It's meant for use just like you see where it forms easily to all the contours of the door. The thicker material has a problem bending to those contours or at least sticking over time....which once it's loose from the panel it loses most or all of its' effectiveness.

That being said the eastwood stuff looks thin enough to form and will be leaps and bounds over a cab without it!

Aha. Yes it is thicker, but not by much. Good thing our old trucks don't have complex stampings like new trucks. I have a 1 inch wide and a 2.5 inch wide J roller to press it down really well. I can't wait- oh I have to, darn.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Worked a little tonight and got the other cab corner on. I need to finish putting any heat on the cab so I won't mess up my interior paint.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Craigslist is the best!
2 days ago I posted an ad that I had a black console I wanted to trade for a flip seat console. Today a guy showed up and we swapped even. I couldn't be happier and neither could he! While he was here I also sold him $70 of worthless plastic interior parts that were cracked or scratched on his truck that I would have ended up throwing in the trash. Nice.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Weak Picture Time.

I spent most of the day doing prep work and you would never know.

I did manage to get a fair bit of seam sealer in my hair.

Later, I put my old tag in the back window so I could drive around.
