I hope that thing handles that motor and tranny better than they handle a cart load full of food..

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

It seams really sturdy. The cart looked brand new. The wheels roll very smooth on my floor too. People around here just leave the carts in vacant lots all the time. I could round up at least 10 right now.

It looked brand new. It looks like it's made more heavy duty than the ones I've seen before. I welded really thick metal to it, and it didn't burn through the cart metal. I also welded small gussets in the front corners to stiffen up the side movement.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

Did you get it at Cosco's or Walmart? I'm getting mine fron Cosco's there extra heavy duty. You know HF has engine stands for about 40. Of course yours holds the transmission too. I was thinking about getting a new camp trailer. So I can be just like you. I would have to figure out how to mount an engine and some bags in it of course.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

oh my , i suspect the supermarkets better chain down there shoppingcards .
i heared about a few people that made some money collecting those carts from various places all over there town and return them to the supermarkets for a small pay , they usually use a low floor trailer behind a cheap car to load about 20 at a time , looking at the price for one of those carts its logical the supermarkets want to hold ontoo them

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

Finally sold what's left of the 73 that I parted out. Sold the rust free cab for $300.00 with the doors, 1 fender, 1 inner fender, and the complete A/C & heating system along wit lots of miscellaneous crap. The funny part is it's going to Hawaii without ME.
I had to put cardboard at 4 corners and strapped it on a pallet, then rapped it with that shrink rap stuff on a roll. So far from all the parts I didn't need that I sold from both trucks (the 73 & 65) I made over $1,000 above the cost of both trucks.

Say by,by, and ahola.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

pretty good price for the customer that bought it if you compare it to wat i have payed for a newer style cab without doors or any other sheetmetal here in the netherlands , offcourse that one had to travel a bit further from the states

How did they get that cab in the truck? Loading dock? I see the pallet jack. Semi laid frame?

They had a lift gate, and a hand fork lift. I dragged the cab over to the semi with my Rhino.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

Serious question, not trying to mess with the joviality going on here Dennis.
You grafted the rear section of the 73 frame on to the 65 front section.
In doing so did you notice if it wouldn't just be easier to use a donor piece of sheet metal from the 73-84 (87?), i.e. the bottom section of the rear cab panel, to reform that curve that goes from the lower cab corner, around the saddle tanks and straight across to the other side on the 63-66 cabs so that one could simply drop the 63-66 cab on to the later model frame?
Did anything I just said make sense?
The deal is, I have a 79 GMC that mechanically is in great shape. In fact it has 57,000 original miles. But it is a diesel/gas conversion and when they converted it, they didn't get most of the emissions stuff on and now that I bought it I cant get tags... it's useless now.
I was thinking I could change out frame mounts and bolt my 66 cab on and go but I see significant interference issues with the back of the 66 cab.
Wadaya think? Any thoughts?

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

Make sence to me. I thought of using a section from the 73 Cab I had, but didn't want to cut it up. I sold the cab, so I'm glad I didn't cut it.

The rear of the 73-79 frame kicks up sooner than the 65 does. You will probably have to do the same as I did.
It was a PITA, and I wish I didn't do it, I should have just shortened the 65 long bed frame.

Well, I was thinking of getting a donor section from a different cab than I have. The first part of the floor just in front of the rear panel OR to the front of the bench seat of the donor cab could be used to raise the 66 floor and then I could use a later model seat and track.
I could also use the later model rear cab mounts and use the saddle gas tanks.
It would be a lot of fabrication but the end result would be a better frame.
I don't want to shorten the frame. The LWB is fine with me. There is a 3" difference in wheel base but at this point I could live with that.
I need to do something. The frame I have is slightly racked, has been extensively repaired and now the drivers side frame horn is not unlike swiss cheese from my attempt to put power steering on the truck.
What a mess I have gotten myself into Olly...
I guess I could just get a 69-72 frame, swap the rear cab mount brackets, swap in the 63-66 frame horns and be done with it.
Problem is finding a leaf sprung frame in those years.
