Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Drove it , yes finally after 5 years its almost done . it has a oil leak and that pisses me off cause its from the engine builder, but.... all I can do is fix it . its either the front seal or the timing cover. still felt nice to drive it to a friends house and back.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Put new brake/clutch master cylinder kits in so now I can go, shift AND stop all in the same trip Tell ya tho, I cant wait till i swap the front and go disk and upgrade to a differnt brake cyl. No one had 2 kits in stock so I had to hit 2 parts houses to get the 2 kits. Napa charged 21.99 and Oriley was 15.99. go figure.

I put some pulleys on the engine, dropped in the dist and bolted down the valve covers. I also cleaned up some of the mess cutting up a truck leaves behind.. Thanks for the effort Rich..

No biggie. Though the Sheriff hiding behind the mustard plants down the street did give me a moment of concern. We must have past on Cypress but I was in my Audi so you wouldn't have noticed me. I don't know what my excuse was.
I wish I could have helped.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Yesterday I took it to my mechanic and wrote the check.

oil/filter change
front end/driveshaft lube
tires rotated and balanced (they were new tires but dang it rides a lot better now!)
brake shoes/drums inspected (while they had the wheels off)
emergency brake cable checked and lubed
they also tuned the carburetor... which is good since it seem to ride a lot smoother now
new master brake cylinder and fluids, etc..

A lot of the above I usually do myself... but I'm on vacation week after next and I wanted it done.

I'm lucky, my mechanic works on old stuff.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Since no one is posting on the Pre-'47 board:

I did the final installation on my '46's glove box and door - the hinge-to-doors screws are too loose though. Gonna have to drill and re-tap CAREFULLY to avoid breaking loose the caged nuts.

Wire-wheeled, painted and installed my recently acquired rear headliner bow.

Pulled my steering wheel, filed cracks and began repairing using JB Weld. It's a work in progress.

And last, I bought a $10 1941 Calfornia license plate just to try my hand at restoration. It's rusty but it's only gonna hang on my shop wall. Stripped it, primered it with several coats of sand-able primer and painted it gloss black. Tomorrow I mask & paint the letters/number.

Does the crank on the dash open the bottom of the windshield?
A/C must be a tight fit on that truck.

Yes, it does. '46 was the last year for the crank out windshield. My cab is actually a '41 but there are only a couple tiny differences. Mine had no windshield regulator when I bought it but I lucked out and found a rusted solid one for $40. I took it all apart, wire wheeled it clean, re-assembled with white molybdenum grease and it works like new. That's a new handle though. Easy open/easy close.

Here's the truck from a few months ago. Mildly cammed 350/350 with Jag independent rear suspension, (front suspension as well). Four wheel power disc's and power steering. '51 Chevy car steelies, beauty rings& caps. Since I bought it last summer I've had it professionally re-wired, added a $40 Craigslist third row bench seat out of a Ram 12 passenger van - fits like a glove and it's TIGHT in that cab! Recently found the Doray yellow fog lights - a $10 steal from an estate sale. Not sure how I feel about them...but they're installed for the time being. Only took minor clean up and painting the mounts to make them like new. Scored a NOS Guide early rear view mirror at the same sale too but have not installed it yet. I've searched high and low and found the rear window pot metal trim ring, interior windlace retainer strips, headliner bows and bought installed assorted rubber parts, window channel, etc - all of which is not yet installed. Today I'm working on restoring the minor cracks in the steering wheel. Sorry to go on so. It' nice to have someone ask.

Isn't it cool?

I've been collecting parts at junkyards that I don't really need. Also ordered a gas fill tube so I can put some gas in it without having it leak in the cab.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Nice looking truck. I had a friend with one of these years ago, and finding all the pieces to make a decent grille was next to impossible. To see a chrome one in that condition is amazing. The seat looks like a great fit. I like the addition of the fog lights, they look great.

Thanks. The grill is CLOSE, but not perfect. It has a little tear and some minor rust on the top bar near the driver's side. I'm hoping a little grinding, a minor MIG repair and re-chroming (someday!) will make it right. I recently had to take part of it apart and found the price tag on it: $650 Then I went on eBay and saw one with 14 bids on it up to $800. That's REALLY crazy.

As for the fogs - I got them for $10 at an Estate Sale recently and they cleaned right up - so I HAD to try them on my truck. I haven't decided how much I like them yet. I'm fine with the truck being Old School but I'm Old Man enough all by myself! I don't need to add to it in that way.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Finished up the brake lines and bleeding. I thought I had an oil pan leak. I did but it was due to my crappy chrome timing cover. Tore things apart today. My fancy aluminum water pump didn't fit so I installed a cast one which rusted up. I cleaned and painted it up today. I decided to go with an aluminum timing cover so I'll have to wait for the mailman.Got some sanding done on the floors.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Today I pulled the front clip out of the truck, cleaned it up a bit and painted some of it. I ran out of paint .. After that I put it back on the truck. I did all this by myself. Rich showed up as I was putting the last bolts on. I need to adjust the fenders up a bit in the back though. Here are some picture of how I do this alone.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I got the e brake cables back in and whacked the ugly side pieces off the rear Barden bumper...bothered me for 20 years, the bumper is going in the trash soon but for now it looks better, also removed the chains and added inside latches to the tailgate

Cut the front coils 1.5 coils. Put jeeps springs in the back. It rides like crap up front, but it looks good
