Re: What did you do to your truck today!
It was all truck, all the time" today.
First, we went to the Coarsegold Frosty to meet a guy who just about gave me a blazer gas tank, a new sending unit still in the box, a steering column with steering wheel and extra horn ring, etc. Really nice youn dude with his family in tow. Then we went off to Fresno to meet a guy's family member who was keeping a roll pan (the kind w/detent and lic. plate lights)....I think I have to take a little chunk out of the truck to make it fit...right where the detent goes up against the sheet metal of the bed, right?.... Here's a picture of the co-owner, Irene walking down Van Ness Ave. in downtown Fresno carrying the roll pan. Then, back to the shop to tear off all the carb, exhaust manifold(s), serpentine belt system, and all the metal on the 350.....Hey, on an early ( I think '79) head, the passenger side isn't tapped for one of the serp's upper bolts. Anyone know the fix? I hate to tap into the head unless that's the thing to do. Seems like it would be strong enough without that bolt. But I'd like to do it right. I'd be the one closest to the water pump on the passenger side just under the idler. Then, off to eBay and a couple of other places for FelPro (sp?) gaskets, a new oil pan, some new aluminum valve covers and a few other small goodies. Yup...I've got the fever, Boys and Girls!!!!!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Thbe bed came off and went on saw horses. The '71 donor cab was pulled out of the shop for the Junk Man. A friend (who sold me the truck) delivered a parts washer. I washed all the Edlebrock Performer intake manifold and the serpentine belt stuff, repainted it with aluminum engine enamel.
While I was painting, I painted the freshly sealed 350 tranny. I just used paint I had around. Some Chevy Engine Orange. Painted the dipstick and linkage tabs black....I think it looks real "Halloweenie" now. Next, the holes in the gutted '68 dash for the Vintage Air vents. And a detail of the rest of the motor. I'm waiting for the new valve covers, oil pan, and FelPro gasket set.

Temp fixed my gas hole after I moved the tank to the rear. Took about 10 minutes and looks stock.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
A little more progress today. Sealed up the motor. Going to hang the stuff back on the motor next. Finned and polished aluminum oil pan didn't fit with this new timing cover. Bummer. I'll return it and paint the pan before the next step. Then, she goes back in between the front frame rails.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Finished wire brishing, flap disking, and scotch briteing (red on a 4" grinder) the rear of my frame and then painted it with POR-15 while i have the bed off so i can start the install of my rear fuel cell. Um, don't use gardening gloves when ya paint this stuff on because it can get thru the cotton part of the glove and get on your skin, which will not wash off or come off with any solvent after it dry's.... Just call me spot for a while.. :p

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I started this on Friday last week but I think the paint is now cured enough to put it back on. Not the greatest but I like it.
I forgot to say what it is that I did. The wheel had a bunch of cracks in it so I filled in the cracks with bondo and painted it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I fixed the leaking diaphragm on my Holley carb and removed some cut up A/C hoses to clean up the engine bay a little bit. Also got the tach mounted and reinstalled the original AM radio that works.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Friday night, got her jacked up and installed a new RU Ball Joint and greased the front end. Saturday installed both front wheel cylinders, front brake lines and packed the wheel bearings. Drove her around a bit saturday night. Now she's ready for a PA inspection sticker, so I can legally drive her
So I thought I'd try a set if chrome wheels from my old 79 chevy 4X4, but realized that just because the bolt pattern is the same, the rivits on the front drums keep the wheel away from the hub, so they work on the rear, but not the front ...Oh well.
