Weekend Update..

Got the bed floor epoxied, it looks ok.. nowhere near prefect, but I think it will look fine with Line-X on it.





Installed the bottom Carpet pieces.. Used double sided tape..




Moved on to door and window handles.. I attempted to use reproductions, but they did not fit well.. I am sure it was due to me buying the cheapest ones I could fine. Decided to update..









Finally got the wheel caps for my front wheels.. Went ahead and paint the front hubs while I was at it.

Started polishing the wiper arms..




Then I decided to go ahead and mount the bed to the frame. This will allow me to test drive the truck, get the bed lined, and exhaust installed. That way I that will be left to do is finish the paint.




Installed fuel inlet



















Found a few problems




May have to run wheel spacers.. or a larger lift.. Not excited by ether..

I think the gap is a little wide between the cab and bed..



After the paint I will be installing this

Looks good mark hopefully I can get you finished up soon! That gap is pretty big.. It's gonna look awsome with the lower moldings.

thanks Kyle.. The gap measures 1.5 inches.. Not sure what it should be.. The cab is all the way back, and the bed is hitting the back of the frame. I will have to trim the frame to move it forward. I think you are right on the trim...

Hey where did you get the lower carpet panels? Those look great as well as the billet handles. Very nice pieces.

Mark, that thing gets awesomer with each passing day!

I wouldn't be too concerned about running spacers. Get get a set of good billet units and you'll be fine.

What tape are you using for your lower carpet? I haven't run across any that I'm happy with as far as strength goes.

You have more distractions than I do...

Trim Parts.. the same place I got my carpet.. They are very nice.. The billet handles I got from jegs.. They were the cheapest place I could find for those items..

Thanks, I am really proud of the way it is coming together.. Not a show truck, but definitely a nice truck..

Can you recommend a place to get the spacers?

I got some 3m heavy duty outdoor tape at Home Depot.. It looks like it going to work well.. I guess only time will tell..

I forgot to mention I took my truck out for it maiden voyage Sunday. I usually have a rule on first trips after a rebuild/overhaul.. “Never drive farther then you willing to walk”, but I made an exception this time. I drove it about 20 miles..

Pro’s:
Lot’s of power.. (really surprised by how well the 5.3 moves the truck)
Transmission shifts out real well (not my first rebuild, but the first in +20 years)
The differential seem to work well, with no noise coming from them (It was my first time setting one up, so yes I was worried)
Not too many rattles.. The worse ones where the sun visor and were it sets in the clip near the rearview mirror and the door lock pulls..
Water temp went right to where it should be and never climbed
Oil pressure was great
Speedometer was dead on
Cruise Control Worked
All the lights worked as planned.

Con’s
It rides like a lifted 4x4 SWB truck. I don’t mind, but my wife will
I wish the steering was a quicker ratio.. it steers fine, but it is almost too easy to steer. I would like more feedback..
The passenger side vent well is not sealing well, has a small air leak. There is something wrong with the latch.

There were only a few parts I did not replace on the truck because they appeared to be fine. Two of those had small leaks after the trip. The power Steering hose and the front Transfer Case Output seal. Both are easy fixes I guess

I have not really drove it long enough to have any other thoughts on it. I will be bring it to Edmond to get the bed lined and get the exhaust installed. So I should know more after that 150 mile trip.

Here's a sample of some like I used. I'm clueless on your bolt pattern / spacing needs so you may have to search a bit. LINK

Nice to know the shake down cruise went well for you. Doing something like the Power Tour is not the best way to figure out if everything is OK.

Thanks Steve.. I think a one inch spacer (the front axle of these trucks are 2 inch wider than the rear, so this would give it an even track) will do.. 6 bolt.. I will do some research with this link..

Have you done the power tour before as your first trip?

Congrats on the maiden voyage. Sounds like you did a great job on all the mechanical, thus, not walking back is a good deal. We will need a video at some point you know.......

I just got a set off ebay. 140 for 4 1.25 inches wide with 7/16 lugs. How is the top body line on your tailgate? i just got an aftermarket one and its more than a little wonky. truck is looking good as always.

Truck is coming together real nice, you will get the little things figured out. Cool you had a shake down run, exciting isn't it. Just took mine for a run with new super 44 mufflers tonight and the new engine actually lights up the 38.5" tires really easily, just nothing but fun. Keeping an eye on your build.

Just finished reading the whole build this truck is sweet looks amazing and I realy like all the work done the ls swap is awesome I am not sure about doing one of those yet as I am young and still have a lot to learn from people like you again nice build can't wait to see this one done

I will check out ebay for those spacers.. The tailgate is like all the other aftermarket parts.. they don't fit without some work. The profile of the top of mine is off some. I suspect just like yours..

I for one would like to hear it run. Looking at this today a 26 T, may be crazy, wife even said OK, a lot of work.

Looking at how much work you have done is tiring, don't know if I want more.

After the first trip last weekend I found a couple of leaks. Of course they were on parts I did not replace the first time. I installed both power steering hoses.. Seemed to fix the leak.




Then I started on the front output seal on the Transfer case. It was not too bad..




got the NOS wiper blades in this week.. So I went ahead and installed the wipers..





Made the trip from my shop on Lake Eufaula to Edmond today. I am planning on getting the bed lined and exhaust installed before Kyle is ready to finish the paint. I drove about 75mph (1900rpm) on most of the 150 mile trip. The truck ran great, the oil pressure was good at 45psi +, the water temp stayed right at 195 -200F the whole trip, and the transmission oil temp tracked along with the water temp as it should. As I mentioned before the truck rides like a lifted 4x4 SWB solid front axle truck.. rough riding. Not sure of what type of lift is on the truck, considering installing a new kit from Skyjacker someday to see if it helps with the rough ride. I also have some transfer case noise.. not sure if it is normal or not.. It is not bad, but you can hear it when you are at highway speeds.. I may tear it down sometime this summer and rebuild it. The wind was blowing about 40mph today, most of the trip was a cross wind, the truck was stable, but the light steering (not a lot of feedback from the wheel) still don’t feel right. I will get the frontend aligned and see if it helps. If not, I may try to return the steering gear box, and install a later model (different gear ratio).

Over all I am very pleased with how it has turned out.. The 5.3 powers the truck great.. I took it up to ~90mph a couple of times on the interstate just to see how it handled at speed.. it got there very quick..

So this week I will be working on:
Finding rear wheel spacers
Front end alignment
Bed lined
Exhaust
Research the noise a normal NP205 has at highway speeds
Try to locate a front sway bar

Very nice shake down cruise! Glad everything went well, and the new powertrain combo is doing exactly what you got it for.
