Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
I am thinking of getting these wheels soon but I was curious about the tires.. I found a set of 275/45/20XL here locally that a friend has that are take offs. They are cheap and my truck isnt a daily driver so I dont see me putting a ton of miles on them anyway. would these fit well and would you go 20x8.5 x 4 or do the staggered 20x8.5 and 20x10 rears? Any help would be appreciated.

They don't fit worth a crap. What width rotors do you have? The rear will need a spacer with it's 6.225" backspace on the 10's. The 8.5's on the rear would look worse and would also need a spacer. Save your money and buy a wheel that fits.

Keith,
930 replies and 101,790 Hits and your out on them? Come on man......Save your money and buy a wheel that fits? No guts no glory? Just messing with you man. I know how you are about "correct" fitment and I would have to agree. If you want your Back spacing and track width to be right save your $$$ and buy exactly what you want. If you don't mind spacers, spacers and machining to fit this isn't your wheels. Oh yeah, I had to grind my spindle shafts off about 3/8" too. |

Yeah I'm out on them. I started this thread. I own a set that have tires mounted. I also have a set of 1" spacers for the rear 20x10's. I will eventually put them on one of my trucks. Boss/AE wheels had a chance to fix their screw up,... and they couldn't even pull that off. Too much trouble for the the average guy wanting to bolt on a set of wheels. Heck,... all the info is in this thread. Most don't want to read the thread,... they want to bust out their wallets and buy wheels. I can't imagine all the trouble the local tire dealers have trying to sell these wheels. Wheels "make or break" a truck. Save your money and buy Coys,... if you want an affordable wheel. Even the Eagle 225's have the wrong backspace in their 20x8.5's. They got it right with the 8.5" 338's and a 5-1/4" BS. But then they build the 8.5" 225's with 4.5" BS. Where are these people getting their numbers? (All of this is my opinion)

That was the old revision. That's why they made the changes they did in Rev 3.

FWIW, AEWC just updated their blog entry about the 338s this morning. They deleted all of the complaints about fitment on the 338s (which really irritates me) but they did say this:

I am pretty sure C10seconds has them - He may only be running them in the rear though? Good Luck.

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
I have them front and rear on my '76 2wd Blazer and the first generation Boss 338's fit without ANY issue! This was the easiest and simplest way to make these wheels fit. I needed spindles anyway, and my brakes were worn completely out and needed replacing and after doing the math...it was the route to go. It stops like a champ, and other than the paint and body work that still needs attention... I love the ole Blazer.
I say, Go For It!!! btw... I have the front and rear kits Last edited by nlped; 02-04-2011 at 11:28 AM. |

Reply to my email to Boss Motorsports(Feb 4,2011):
From: Boss Motor Sports <bossmotorsports@earthlink.net> Subject: Re: www.bossmotorsports.com Contact Request Date: Friday, February 4, 2011, 4:58 PM "We never take customer feed back lightly. So many things have to take place before a part can be modified and we never lost sight of this important modification for those on the 67-72 forum and many others. We are very familiar with this forum and others. We thought that we had made a correction that would work for all of the trucks yet it fell flat on the 67-72's. Our goal was to include these in the fix. Strange I get this email today as I have just finalized the modifications for the 20 and 18 inch parts. the drawings for the tooling are finished and the metal to make the tooling is ordered. It will be here for us to cut in about a week or so. From there we will go into production and we hope after all of the time and helpful feed back from our customers the issue will be resolved. We do care very much and I wish we moved a bit faster but the fact is we do listen and we have made the modifications per our customers requests. Thank you and I hope that we can keep you and others as customers in the future. Please never stop making suggestions as truly, they do not fall on def ears."

Any indication if they're changing the backspacing for '67-72 trucks?

Ha.. funny you asked, I thought of that as an afterthought...Not sure it will be the fix we want... ie: more lip.
Subject: Re: www.bossmotorsports.com Contact Request "Hello, Also is there any chance for an additional back space option for the 338's like 5.5"?" Re: www.bossmotorsports.com Contact Request " yes we added back pad to the wheel to help move it out ."

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5
More pad on the back will reduce the backspacing,... but it won't add more lip.
Kinda like sticking a 1" wheels spacer to the back of the wheel.

Does anyone know if the CPP 13" work like the McGaughy's? I believe they too are a two piece application?
Thanks
