Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
I don't know anything about these, but I did look one over once. I believe it is PTO driven hydraulics. I'm not sure if it would use a shaft off the PTO to rear pump, pump on PTO with lines run fore and aft, or pump on engine. Lots of hose, though!
A more leisure oriented Jeep I know, it's a 2wd. can still go off road, though

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
I’ve picked up some more “other makes” over the last year or so.
Bought this one for the doors and fenders. It will probably just sit like this packed full of scout parts for a long time. Has a 345 I got running over the summer. Good oil pressure but some flat cam lobes so it will be a backup engine. |

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Not long after purchasing the scout above I came across this rust free one without an engine in California. Had it shipped here.

No kidding, a rust free scout is a rare bird even here in the west.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Ok, let me clarify: the “rust free” Scout has rust it’s just not rusty where most scouts rust. The hard top, windshield frame, and hood all have rust. Typical top down ocean air rust compared to bottom up Midwest salt induced rust. The yellow scout has rust free hood and windshield frame so that works out. I have two other scouts so between 4 of them I’ll end up with 2. This is the other rust free one and it’s from AZ. Flat cam lobes in this one too.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Yep, FCs were 4wd. How cool would one of those be off road and in the woods? No issues with seeing over the hood. The FC150 was the short one and then there was the FC170. I'm not sure how they labeled them by weight range. I like the longer FC170s

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
I worked one winter for an old guy who had a Ford 4x4 just about exactly like that. He also had an F600 log truck of about that same vintage and color. I spent a fair amount of time riding with him in both of them
He had a sawmill too, and we would take the pickup up to the woods just to cut, and then take the truck to the woods to skid and load. He had a Model A doodlebug skidder and another Model A turned backwards with a tractor front loader mounted on it. Of course I have no pictures because that was back in the film & develop days, and besides never imagined that it would be interesting 45 years later.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
It’s funny some 3/4t bumpsides and dentsides made use of the 1/2t Spicer hubs seen on K10s, K5s, and Broncos. Ford had two front axle options for 3/4t 4wds back in the day. The stouter version used the Spicer hubs we see on GM 3/4t.

Got to post a picture of something or other. That was a nice F250 4wd. Gotta say 4wd since Ford gives no designation between models Bumpsides:

Funny how those old Fords came "lifted" from the factory and back then everyone made fun of them because they were so tall

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
I never heard the making fun for being so tall, but I know in that era mfgrs were going more toward "lower entry height" in their 4wds. My '69 Dodge was divorce case as well and it didn't sit near as high as an F250 4wd. I always said the Fords looked like 4wd was an afterthought, like the truck wasn't designed for 4wd originally. but I liked big tires so it was me wanting my Dodge to sit like a Ford. Then my GMs, once I figured out the truck with best part support and availability wins. That truck Deadhead NM showed is lifted
