Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Well it is always a bummer when you get kinda burned out on a truck....but I like the way you are heading with the other projects (sorta!)....I need to really head up and look at this thing before you let it go, I need inspiration.

Something tells me Low Buck is going to be giving up its drivetrain so as that the tahoe may live...

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
That would be the simple thing to do and some of it is going to happen. But the main thing is still being missed and I gave a good hint in the post that just started this mini thread

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Is Low-Buk's chassis going to be transplanted under the Tahoe? or another SWB truck frame? Aren't they the same wheelbase now?

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
I kind of hope that's not it. So much work has gone into the burb to make it into a unique 4 door tahoe I would hate to see it turned into a crew cab.
Crew cabs are becoming more and more common, but I can only think of 2 ot 3 other "Tahoes", and I've yet to see one in person.

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
I could "handle" it turning into a 67 "Avalanche." That would keep it unique and bad ass and something that hasn't been done before (at least to a shortened burb that I've seen, I've seen a "full burb" version of an Avy).
Whatever Kevin does, it WILL be cool, I just hate to see something that already is really cool get cut up into something else

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
You are getting very warm! I know a lot of people want to see it as a Tahoe but I am over it We love LowBuk but with a growing son it is a very tight fit on that bench. We also need a truck for hauling so a version of this would work out well but it is still up in the air. I have had a few guys ask about buying the roller but nothing has come of it so for now my mind is rolling in another direction.
As said above their are a few crews out their but none are done to what I feel is a factory build with the correct proportions. The gold and white one is the best I have seen but still the "B" pillars are just not what chevy would have done as shown by the passenger side burb "B" pillar. But we will see. Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build

Ok guys here is the basic run down of my current thoughts. Pull the LT1 and 700R4 in favor of the 05 Vortec 5.3L with 4L60. It will have more pulling power for towing and now I will have the availability of power adders as well. Cap off the back of the 4 door tahoe and turn it into a crew cab, smooth the fire wall and paint it to match lowbuk and add trim to all 4 doors. Then once it is ready to drop on to the frame I will then pull lowbuk into the shop and remove the cab, front end, motor and trans and then cut the frame under the cab and graft in the tahoe's front half of the frame to give me the longer wheelbase (33") and keep the C4 dropmember set up allowing me to use the new rims from the tahoe as well. After the frame of welded up and painted I will drop the Vortec and trans in place, drop on the completed cab, LowBuk front sheet metal and be almost back on the road. Then to get the rear rims to fit I will have my axels re-drilled and ditch the leafs in favor of 3/4T trailing arms, bags and a Porter Trailing arm crossmember. I will keep the front buckets and second row bench out of the tahoe for the crew cab and reuse the Vintage, gauge cluster, tilt column and brake booster from LowBuk. I will re-wire the cab before placing it on the frame (lowBuk needs to be re-wired bad) and to finish it off I will also use Reno's AccuAir system to control my new ride height. The crew will not sit as low as the tahoe does because I want to keep a full bed but it will drop about 3" lower then it is now doe to the C-notch that was put in it during the first go around. So now give me some feed back Kevin LFD Inc. |
