Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

Took the truck to a show today... A couple of hundred cars and mine was the only 67-72 but still no hardware! I don't go for the hardware I go to talk cars and trucks with other gear heads, and we did plenty of that today. All those cars and I only took pics of one...

After the show we cruised up to the local Hooters for a Show n Shine and some wings. I guess the Hooters gals liked the truck, they left a signed t-shirt for us!

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

This is a great thread. I have enjoyed the read tremendously.

Question, though. What motor mounts and perches did you use. It kinda looks like you might have used the 73-87 stock perches & mounts with adapter plates. If not, then which?

Dave.

Dave - I used ECE conversion mounts. I believe the lowers (frame stands) are 73-87 and ECE fabricates the upper mount. They set the engine farther forward than most other mounts, but I have had zero issues with clearance around the exhaust or accessories.

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

I built a plate that is held in place by the radio/speaker screw up top and the heater support bracket screw on the bottom. And then I jammed all the wiring up in there as best I could. It will really depend on which harness you have.

everything i see you do is top notch!

is this mounted where the radio would go? no room left for a radio?

I have the PSI harness and really want to keep the ecm in the cab but may end up with it out in the engine bay due to space.

I don't know about top notch, but it is a functional. There isn't much room under there and there are a couple of things that still need to be mounted... I'm the king of the zip tie! The bracket fits straight up and down flat against the firewall. It's sort of a z so that I could pick up the screw that goes into the cowl for the speaker/radio mount. The problem with the radio is after you get the bracket in there you have to tighten that screw and it is easier without the radio installed. Also my fuse/relay panel is living in that space right now, so I bought a radio delete panel and left the radio out. I have been kicking around the idea of mounting the ecm behind the seat. Porterbuilt has a set of panels that close out the space behind the seat and would be a great mount for the ECM and fuse/relay center. The downside is having to order another PSI harness that is about 2 feet longer. We'll have to see what happens with that.

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

When you installed your Classic Instruments gauges, did you have to do anything special to get your tach working properly? I installed mine this past weekend, but haven't been able to get it going right just yet. I tried the switches on the back for 8 cylinder and also 4 cylinder to no avail. Truck looks great Buck. Can't wait to see the PB stuff on there.

I just set it for 4 cyl pulse for the LS and it has worked perfectly. Make sure you have good grounds and that the speedo has it's own separate ground if it's electronic.

It's too bad there wasn't a goodlookin' girl included with that T-Shirt, but I guess a signed shirt will have to do.
I saw you taking a peek at my build, thanks for stopping by.
