I really like the way this truck looks. I was looking to do a 4/6 static drop but I'm opting for this set up instead. Thanks for posting... JG67

Yeah, I agree. That thing is in really good shape. Would like to see the cleaned up version.

I have to admit, I had it on factory Suburban alloys and white letter tires for the last 10 years, but I finally put it back to near its production-line glory.

I love the original hubcaps and the whitewall tires. You almost never see it, even here. Where did you get your whitewall tires? Are they on original steel wheels?

I got them at Walmart. 15" WW's are really getting hard to find nowadays. I used rally wheels because I wanted 8" instead of the 6.5" or 7" of the stock steel wheels.

Looks great-better than it looked out of the showroom probably. I think the tires look good because of the black-white-black-white pattern from the rubber to the hub. Gives great definition of the hub cap, wheel and tire.

The 8" wheels give a wider stance while the hubcaps hide the wider wheel. Nice look

Crewadmin, that's a great look. What hubcaps are those and how did you customize them?

The painted smoothies can look great with caps. There are a few Chevy car cap choices. A good 6-lugger alternative for sure.

your truck looks awesome. I have a similar plan with my 15 x8's with the full wheel covers but they came out so nice after sandblasting and painting I couldn't get myself to cover them up. I don't have white walls but I wanted the rim edge white so did the whole rim. I put my old dog dish caps on for now which I like also and when they start to look a little haggered or I'm in need of a change I'll put the full covers on. I'd like to put one on to see what it looks like but I'm sure I'll scratch the rim.

Your wheels look wider than stock--it may just be the fresh paint. I like the look with clean white wheels and the small caps.

I'm glad you posted the pic of the full wheel covers. Mine were from a '77, which were gold in the bowtie and the ring around it. When I detailed them I did it from memory and made the bowtie and the ring blue. I knew something didn't look right!

I believe the 60's would be right. I think it's more about the width and offset of the rim than the difference in width of those two tire sizes. You have the rim right--I think the 50's would have too much of a 1980's look. But then, I could be wrong!

Yes these wheel's aren't stock to this truck. It had the 6" on it before but I wanted a wider stance

I have the same situation, pnly with red powdercoated 5-lug 15 x 8s. I planned to use wheel covers and narrown whitewalls to leave that red rim look. But, I might as well use a more common wheel for that and I'm just using dog dish with these.

Yeah, the wheels do look deeper than stock. The tires are nice and beefy, that helps with the wider look.

Re: Whose on Steelies? Post 'em up!

This is my 1971 that I have been playing with, drop spindles with 2" drop springs, new ball joints, flipped the rear axle on the leaf springs, 22" steelies, 55 hub caps, new dash pad, new gas tank with lines, new door controls, door locks, new 2.5 dual exhaust with flow masters. Fun truck!
