David, I just revisited your build thread to show a buddy at work your truck, and saw your situation.

Sorry to hear about the accident, but am glad you are OK.

Trucks can be rebuilt.

I like the the way you approach your build on the truck.

I think I told you before that your build was an inspiration for me to start my build on my 70 short step. I am not street legal yet, but getting close.

Here's a quick pic.

I'll be sure to check back to see your progress.

Nice! Glad my truck could be an inspiration. That thing is awesome and I see you're in Houston. Maybe we will cross paths someday. I'm considering a white roof/grille this time around but I'll likely keep it as is.

Well here you go. I tried to use an open end wrench with a cheater bar and it started to deform the plug...so I thought I would stand a better chance if the cap was completely boxed. I didn't have an 8 pointed socket in the right size. Drilled a hole and filed it into the exact shape... a lot of work for something I'll never use again but it worked perfectly.

I also removed the bushings and sleeves from the trailing arms and they are ready for powdercoat. That was a pain. Tomorrow I will remove the yoke and pinion from the housing and it should also be ready for powder. I should have the control arms back this week.

I used the blue-tipped axe on my TA bushings. Stinky/messy but easy!

Ha! I've never heard it called that. We have a 20 ton press that helped. I have original style rubber replacements with sleeves that I'll be using.

My first powdercoated parts! I took them to North Side Powdercoating in Conroe. They did an awesome job! Also dropped off my trailing arms and axle housing.

I also have some new shoes on order as of today. I have an idea and they may not end up being gray... we will see.

As for the centers...I'll keep it a secret for now. Could look pretty good or pretty bad. Gray will look good regardless.

Wow I haven't posted in over a year...

I'm still plugging away at it and I'm on to body work now. I'll try to post pictures soon. I'm trying to make LST '18, but that's a long shot at this point... Life got busy.

Thanks mines a stepside so I don’t have a ton of room to work with. Wanted to take it all the way out the back this time. Came up with this setup with some mandrel bent 2.5” the rear section is left uncoated now so that I can get it exactly how I want it once the bed is on (rotation and length).

Very nice! I understand about not having a ton of room, I'm going to build a better exhaust for my Blazer this winter. With an 11" shorter wheelbase and rocker boxes outside of the framerails, it's going to get interesting. I like your truck even more now that I see you are using a TKO 5-speed, I'm wanting to switch to that also.

Thanks yeah it’ll be a huge improvement over the granny 4-speed. The little loop is the lowest point but it’s minimal.
