Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"
Marc,
Just curious (nosy, ha ha) why did you weld shut the factory radio hole? I can see the holes for the knobs were goofed up but was the main opening screwed too? Will you replace with SecretAudio, a vintage style replacement or just go with a modern DIN style?

The radio opening was fine. The knob openings as you mentioned were messed up. I never cared for the look of the modern vintage looking knob stereo's plus I like the look of a smooth clean dash. I did something similar to my 48. Not sure on what route I will go with a radio but it will be hidden maybe behind the grill in the dash. Marc

Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"
Yeah, Ive seen that behind an all chrome dash. Looks excellent and very practical too. I dont have a clue about the price of an all chrome set of dash grills. But if affordable, looks great!

Re: 53 Surburban "Family Truckster"
Well I figured it was time to update my thread with the little progress that I've made.
These pictures cover removing the body from the frame one last time. The idea is I will disassemble the frame and get it ready for paint. I also want to take the body and get the inside and door jams sandblasted. I plan the leave the outside as is for now. I also finished my hidden hitch. I started with a hitch that was too narrow with huge mounting plates because it was a class 4 hitch. I chopped off the mounting plates. Then I picked up some 2 1/2 square tube to slide into the original hitch to make it the desired width that I needed. I then made some mounting tabs. The last step was to make a receiver/license plate mount. I wanted it to follow the curve of the rear bumper to flow a little better. Here are a bunch of pictures....
