Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
So want to start off saying that I first loved the look and quality of this tank. But, now after finally finishing my project there are some flaws that now are problems with the tank.
1. The vent/roll over placement is in the wrong place. It comes right under one of the bed rails. Moving an inch forward would solve this. Not that much of a problem as I just notched the rail. 2. Fuel gauge is all over the place after 1/2 tank. Once it gets to 1/2 tank the gauge really goes everywhere when turning, braking, accelerating. When close to 1/4 of a tank it's pretty much useless. 3. The biggest problem is fuel starvation! Once the tank gets close to a 1/4 of a tank, it becomes useless. Taking off from a standstill, cornering, it starves for fuel and causes the truck to stumble and choke. Not safe nor does it make for a fun experience. This is just with normal driving. As I can tell, the baffling is just not enough. Fuel is able to move way too much. So now I am not to sure what to do. Having to fill the tank before it hits 1/4 sucks. I don't want to have to purchase a whole new tank and redo some of the pluming not to mention spend $$ Suggestions? -——————— My 1970 c10 (550hp LSX, 4l80e, full Ridetech) http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=556610

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
Well that's not good to hear! Anybody else have feedback on these tanks? I'd like to hear from other people too if possible before plunking down close to $800 for a tank.

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
effects66 I noticed in your build thread that it looks like you have the old style tank with the square corners. The newer tanks have rounded edges with more baffling. Doesn't help you with your problem but may help those looking to buy one.

I had the same problem with starvation until I ran my return line into the little area with the pickup. I hope this helps.

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
I think it is great to hear what others are dealing with and what resolves the issue so we don't all need to phone Boyd's for the same topic.
I too have the older tank that has yet to be powered up. If there is something else required for install we all would like to know. Cheers,

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
I just think that a vendors for sale thread is not the correct place to post issues and complaints unless the vendor refuses to take care of the issue(s). It is quite possible that Dave Boyd has a solution for the issues that effects66 is experiencing. IMO a better way to let others know about the issue(s), would be to post the solution(s) to the issues.

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
Dave, if I ordered a c10 tank would it be possible to get it with plain mounting feet on the corners instead of the mount you already use on them? That way I can build my own mount and adjust the height myself.

small changes are usually not a problem to do. you will need to send us in a sketch showing how you would like the mounts placed and give us a call.

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
Dave,
Interested in an EFI tank for my '72 Jimmy 2wd with an LS2. Have you made a tank specifically for the Blazer / Jimmy? I see on your web page you use the Aeromotive A1000 in tank pump. Have you considered the Aeromotive Stealth Phantom 340 in tank pump which includes outlet, return and vent ports and looks comparable in cost? Thank you, Bob |
