I need you kids to help me decide something on this dash
I am trying to decide if I should weld it up and make it all smooth or should I make it several pieces and rivet it together? They would be solid rivets, not pop rivets so I think it would look good. The flip side is that it will ultimately be painted and I am not certain how good the rivets will look once painted. When it's all raw I know it would look killer just not sold on it after the paint. Thoughts?? |

how much would be riveted? i think if there was only a small section it would look out of place but if the whole dash was riveted it might look pretty cool

It would be a lot of rivets. They would run the entire perimeter of the front and top of the dash and the center insert where the gauges will be would be riveted as well.
I was also considering adding in some inserts on the top of the dassh and they would be riveted as well. The rivets would be carried throughout the entire dash. |

Since you asked
 I really like rivets when it's a mechanical theme...like superflysteiny's project second chance and a few similar builds....but your truck is so smooth...the rivets would seem completely out of place to me...and painted over to me wouldn't look good at all. I may be wrong, but I just don't see it flowing with the rest of the truck...

I think VA said it perfectly! Your truck is very subtle as far as mods go (front fender, chop top). Take that to the interior... just enough to make people go "he did something there, but what/how"?... not easy to do, but you got mad skillz
The rivets might just look out of place. Just my .02

I say welded and smoothed. The rivets would be cool if it were more of a hotrod or traditional/ bomber style. I think smooth look would go better with the theme of your truck. That being said.... you are the one building it and everything you done so far has been awesome. SO if YOU think rivets are the way to go I am SURE it will look great in the end.

Yes sir, gauges in the center. I really like the Autometer Prestige series but I'm not a big fan of the $700 price tag.

That looks good, I'm amazed at how you changed the look of a flat piece of steel with a bead roller and dimple dies, and made it look like it belongs. It's simple but it looks really good. I look forward to seeing more of your dash/interior work.
