Not required anymore.
And that white 362 used to belong to a friend of mine. Awesome little hay truck, as a matter of fact they're both hay trucks. Those 2 axles are what I grew up around, I also got my license in a 2 x freightliner with a short 28'6 hay wagon

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
I wondered if you knew that hay wagon I showed. Those never did have more than a tall rack up front anyway. I think cabover straight trucks are cool. It was a tandem, but the first big truck I drove was an old Freightliner dump truck in '76. I was building a shop for an excavating contractor and he put it together that way. It had been an over the road tractor

When we built the one in the back last winter, it was stripped down to bare frame rails. WE left the pusher hanging on it. The old Cummins got replaced with a 60 series Detroit. WE replaced every piece of the suspension and axles, changed the cab and rebuilt the bed.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Ok, that explains the west coast import. I knew they were a German/British deal. That's cool Australia gets some action from them.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Now that is one tough truck. The springs look normal like it's not even carrying a load.
Like the solid rubber tires.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
How about some Powerliners an interesting one owned by the Eaton/Fuller transmission company and a stock one and apparently Freightliner still makes cabovers just not for the US market I believe you can buy them in Canada though but you have to supply the drivetrain for em and here's a really nice Pete cabover and a cabover Kenny

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Yep! As I recall it had about 105xxx miles on it when I owned it. 3208, 5 speed with 2 speed rear, and hydraulic brakes. I think the gvw was 27000, which meant I wouldnt have been able to use it on the road til I got my CDL. Sold it in order to find a lighter truck, but my big truck needs have been put on the back burner since then. Still hoping to get another dump truck one if these days!

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
The state DOT's kept the 3208 in business. I have never had one.
We've had several 3116's and 3126's. They can be described in one word. Junk. Two speed rearend. We can't find anybody that can drive one. It's the simplest thing in the world, but most people can't figure it out. Split shifting is fun with a 2 speed and a 5 speed if you know what your doing.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Found this interesting, The original big gas motor in the F 1100 ( top of the line heavy truck for '59 ) was replaced with a 8v71. Ford never offered this engine in this model, but it looks like it just needed a little lengthening of the hood and fenders ( professional body man of course ) to make it happen.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
The Ford post got me to thinking. I have never revealed this on here before, but I own a Ford.
It's an L9000, 12.7 Detroit, 8LL transmission, Hendrickson suspension. This is one good dump truck. I haven't driven it much, but I like to drive it. special-K, in the original post you said dirty or clean, so here Is a dirty one. It just came in from hauling sediment out of Lake Harrison. The poor ole thing is one nasty puppy.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
That's one of the last Fords, isn't it? I like the L9000 and that one is built nicely. I don't own any Fords but I'll admit I have a thing for the LTL9000s. And I always liked the heaviest Ford tractors going way back. Dodge, too. But the big boys of the more fleet economy companies I think are a cool segment. The Bighorn is popular all over. Mack Superliner, International Eagle, etc

Yes, this truck is a 96. I think Freightliner bought Ford and created Sterling in 97.
