Re: post up your camping pics
I just started taking out my latest dog last year. She's a rescue and still getting used to the off road gig. She does love being out there though. Does great off leash, comes as soon as I call her. I'm pretty sure she scared something coming near our campsite one night too. Was sitting right by me and bolted to the edge of the campsite barked out into the darkness and the next thing we heard was some rustling of stuff on the ground in the distance. Pretty cool.
My buddy Shane and his daughter with Storm zipping through between them. Her first trip out for our annual snow run. I got her a new light up collar for next season's camping fun. Storm is a little hard to see in the dark. I need to get her a coat too. She got pretty cold on one of our runs in the early fall.

It's nice with her in the camper if it's chilly out. She's a little heater when she's laying next to you. All in all she's a great cohort in crime out off road with me.

Re: post up your camping pics
sorry about your friend. my two dogs are real old now, one can hardly walk, and the other is diabetic, and can't see anymore. They both used to start whining when I opened the back door of my crewcab. they knew we were going somewhere. they could tell if it was the front or back door opening!

Re: post up your camping pics
thanks 3757chevy...i do miss him not kickin' around...
ya, it really bites when their short lives start winding down Crewcab, this is the "hard" time of K-9 ownership.... been three weeks since Dawg passed and had not planned on more dawgs till prob next month or so, but today i put my name on the rescue list for some ultra cute rottie/lab puppies that were found beside the highway...(grrr!!!) there is one little girl in their that looks just like Diesel, it would be pretty fine if i could snag her! Dawg was also a rottie/lab, also heard of some rescue mastiff x puppies (just like DixieLou!) but they are about 400 miles away- each way.... |

Re: post up your camping pics
new paint on the crew and new dawgs to fill it...lol
took the puppies to the river for the first time in their lives today figured i'd keep them away from the main river for now and try them in this little crick Rumble is the big one, he's a pyrennes/rotti/lab and growing at a crazy rate. he is 9 weeks old and 30lbs already- eats like a horse near him is Moe, a 9 week chihuahua, and the close puppy is Roxie, she is a little over 7 week old rotti/lab, and a real cutie came across a puddle, what do we do? well Roxie surprisingly was the first to splash threw... |

thats funny. my old lab mix, jumped into water following another dog, and scared her. hated getting anything but her feet wet after that.

With a new Desert trip a month away, I finally started processing footage of the trip from last year. Here's the two I've got put together so far.

Re: post up your camping pics
Enjoyed the heck out of all three videos, guys. I’ll be web wheeling until my camper truck returns with another new transmission... I’m not paying for this one at least.

Re: post up your camping pics
My buddy's 8.1L/nv4500 powered M1009 on tons. It was the first major run on a frame up rebuild. It had a couple of teething issues, but nothing we couldn't manage.
Mud below 9500 ft, snow up to 11,500 ft. Higher we got, the deeper it got. Then I hit a deep spot. High centered the whole thing on some glacial hard snow. Took the Jeep and Taco tied together to have enough holding power to winch me out of said hole. Good prep run for the trip. I've got a couple of items to shore up in the camper to keep the rattles to a minimum.

Re: post up your camping pics
I missed out on Larry's Desert trip this year. Really bummed me out but I had to cover for a co-worker who's father was dying. So all that prep went nowhere until last weekend. My Jeep buddies were making a quick overnight run to a local high mountain lake with family. I had to work on Saturday morning, but I was only an hour away from the trailhead. So I brought my dog to work with the truck packed the night before and headed out once I closed up.
Some changes have happened to make for more efficient use of space and time when in "camp" mode. One of which is the Chuck Box. This is all the cooking gear in one Pelican Case. Get to camp, yank it out of the back and pull the stove and table out to get cooking. Plus it's weather tight and dust proof to stay outside. Changes inside include a new bench and a way to eliminate the bulk of coolers. Yep I got my own Fridge. ARB 50L. One of the guys from the desert trip upgraded and had it for sale. I was going to pick it up on the trip, but since I didn't go, the boys brought it back for me. Gamechanger for sure. Happy Doggo ready for adventure! Since the group had gone up much earlier in the day than I did, I ran the trail solo. I didn't stop and take many pictures from the outside as I just wanted to get up the trail. This is at the Bottom of the Rainbow Lake trail. Gaining Elevation, you can look back into the valley I came from. Also, many burned trees in this area from a fire 8 or 9 years back. The Aspen Trees are coming back in force. Close to camp, they set up at the edge of this creek. Once in camp a few minutes and it's all set up. Beer:30 time. Storm and I walked down to the lake to check it out for the fishing. The lake is higher than anybody I was with there could ever remember. Record Snow levels from last winter have many of my favorite trails still closed. The lake is so high there is no shoreline. It's up to the base of the mountain on two sides with a scree field of rocks/boulders making it a challenge to navigate. My buddies tried for hours and didn't get a bite. Further across the lake. Looking back at camp. Oh yeah I finally did something about my grill.. Storm exploring around the creek. I offered up to cook for the group. I carry a 20lb propane bottle in the camper so no running out of 1lb coleman bottles. Jeeps can't carry what I can.. After Dinner my buddy Shane takes up the BB gun to protect the camp. He's a nut. My view from the bunk the next morning. Storm was warm and toasty. Never turned the furnace on since it was so warm overnight. Morning sunlight on the lake. Coming back down. This spot is significant to me and Larry. We had come up here May of '17 to prove out our rides prior to the Desert trip. There was three snow banks that led up to this spot. Without going into full detail again, Larry's truck had both right side tires off the trail right here. I was able to extract him with my winch and we backed down to a wide spot to camp for the night. The snowmelt runoff is very heavy for this late in June. Dropping in elevation again, the valley comes back into view. I would have liked to be out longer, but longer adventures will come later this summer. It was good to get some dirt on the tires though.
