Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
murpy's law : you look everywhere for the part get fed up about it and buy another one
then you put it away and the first place you want to lay it , theres that part you where looking for a that time .... and now you have two of them

When I'm done with this thing, if that ever happens, that will be my luck. I may be able to build another truck.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I finally took time on Father's Day and worked on my truck. My wife sanded the box on my F-350, so not it is all primer gray and not 3 different colors. My friend Mathew showed up and cut and fit the LH intercooler tube, I got the rear cab trim polished and installed, and started on the down pipe for the turbos. Mathew also dug out the LH fender and put it on to make sure the radiator support was in the correct location. We then saw more great work done by my painter. I'm not happy at all with him. Today I finished the down pipe and checked it for fit. Man it's tight in there! I also found the hardware for my tail gate and mounted it on. I had to put it on so I can weld my bed sides in place. Here's some pics.
I have to pick up more stargon and then I can weld up all my turbo piping. We came up with an idea on how to get my PS line in there, so I think the engine is ready to come out so I can finish the frame, and get everything painted. Oh yeah, we also worked on the trans cross member some more. This truck has to be drivable by June 29th!

LMAO! Um, no, that wouldn't work out like that knowing my luck. If I had your elves or trolls, what ever you have, I might be able to get more done.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
More progress....................
I spent most of the morning sweating my butt off building the lower half and most complex part of my fresh air inlet. I wish I had more money to do a oil relocate kit, and might later on. But for now, this will have to work. I had to trim and clean up the LH piping some more, but I managed to get it tacked up too. Now I think the engine is ready to come out so I can finish the turbo piping, smooth out some stuff on the frame, paint everything, and reassemble to get ready to get it running! I still have to get the hydros set up for the clutch, and I will be building another 241DHD with a modified oil pick up for it. Tick tock............ Tick tock......................

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
personally i think you need another boot on the driver side, right where your two pieces come together above the pump. my motor moves alot when it starts and shuts off. better safe than a cracked intake tube at the flange.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Today was a good day and I managed to get a lot done on the truck. I got it in the big bay and put exhaust on it. It was a pita and I had to use some left over pieces to get this done. (I'm trying to save some money where I can) I still have to put a couple more band clamps on it, but the exhaust is mostly done. It is a 4" down pipe into 5" behind the tcase, and 5" out the back in to a 6" tip.
I got all the turbo piping welded up. Now I have to smooth the welds out and paint them. I also got the inner wheel wells off the wall and trimmed them to clear my intercooler piping. I also started rust repair on them. They were rusted out where the braces are where they bolt to the fenders. I installed the rh battery tray to see what clearance I had to get the air filter in there. I had to modify my pipe, but we finally got it in there where it looks decent. I have to finish welding this pipe tomorrow.

Your truck is really starting to come together and looking good!
When you pull the engine, do you plan on putting heat insulation on the firewall ? |

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Well, after looking at the forecast for the week, I made a decision that this truck isn't going to Good Guys this weekend. There's just too much to do to it, and I have to work on the burb project, and we have to put the corvette back together. Oh well. Today I'm thinking about putting the lh door together, put a hood on it, and putting it out in the sunlight for a little while.
