Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build

I almost forgot the sacrifice of the "Hoe" will also lend it self to a few other projects. The Dana 44 C4 rear end will end up in the finished version of the 3 window coupe I am designing. Then by swaping out the drive train from LowBuw I will use the 700R4 and the cruise control from LowBuk and the SS fuel sump out of the Tahoe fuel tank in my sons F1 SS tank I am building.

Then I will sell the LowBuk cab with interior and door glass (minus side trim, front and rear window's, A/C and gauge cluster) I will also have the front 68 clip off the Tahoe and a few other parts.

Ok guys here is the basic run down of my current thoughts.

Pull the LT1 and 700R4 in favor of the 05 Vortec 5.3L with 4L60. It will have more pulling power for towing and now I will have the availability of power adders as well.

Cap off the back of the 4 door tahoe and turn it into a crew cab, smooth the fire wall and paint it to match lowbuk and add trim to all 4 doors. Then once it is ready to drop on to the frame I will then pull lowbuk into the shop and remove the cab, front end, motor and trans and then cut the frame under the cab and graft in the tahoe's front half of the frame to give me the longer wheelbase (33") and keep the C4 dropmember set up allowing me to use the new rims from the tahoe as well.

After the frame of welded up and painted I will drop the Vortec and trans in place, drop on the completed cab, LowBuk front sheet metal and be almost back on the road.

Then to get the rear rims to fit I will have my axels re-drilled and ditch the leafs in favor of 3/4T trailing arms, bags and a Porter Trailing arm crossmember.

I will keep the front buckets and second row bench out of the tahoe for the crew cab and reuse the Vintage, gauge cluster, tilt column and brake booster from LowBuk. I will re-wire the cab before placing it on the frame (lowBuk needs to be re-wired bad) and to finish it off I will also use Reno's AccuAir system to control my new ride height. The crew will not sit as low as the tahoe does because I want to keep a full bed but it will drop about 3" lower then it is now doe to the C-notch that was put in it during the first go around.

So now give me some feed back

I love the thought of the crew..... but I think it would be bad as a dually, although its a bit inpractical....

Waiting to see progress....

So will it be like an avalanche with the bed attached to the cab or a crew cab with a gap between the cab and the bed?

It will be my LowBuk truck with a longer cab and different running gear. Same bed, same front end but with 20's and 22's.

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build

i think i would leave it as a tahoe and store it on the back burner or sell it...yours and frizzle's are the best 2 i have ever seen done, would be a shame to chop it back up.

but, on the other hand, you wouldnt need much work to get it into a crew cab. so either way it would still look good...man good thing this isnt my truck or dilemma, its already kinda making me think a lot about it lol

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build

Well the time has come I pulled the motor and trans this morning and got them all ready to go into LowBuk. I also pulled the front clip off the Tahoe and will post that for sale here shortly, not the best shape but (fender well mounts cut out for the 20's) still very good for 67. I also pulled the entire AccuAir system out to be put into my son's F1 one day in the near future so I can stop lifting it with a C02 bottle. I will also be putting the tires and rims up for sale soon as well for a steal. My welding helmet finally gave up the ghost so I had some free time today to work on this but I will not get to cutting the body or frame down for another week or two. After that it will sit as is until Lemon Drop is here and gone for some final touches.

The 3-window coupe frame and inner structure for the body is just sickening.
