Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

iIt has been a minute since i posted anything so long i forgot my password but i am back on track. All is well been busy with work and family. I quit the iron work hated the traveling but i do miss lugging the suitcase and burning NR-232. Now i fabricate and weld at a shop 30 min drive building electric power plants. It seems I have less time to work on my truck now i got married have 1 boy and 1 on the way,it has been a battle between the fam the hobbies working on the square, mountain biking or landscape photo sessions. It bothers me, complete disappointment that i have not finished the truck, I am determined, I have this square to finish.
As in tradition i will post pics of the progress

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

so i got the center section along with the essentials. With the set up i have going on i determined 4.11 gear ratio would work out for me best. Its a Moser Nodular case with 31 splines and a Detroit True Trac. Axles are 31 spline from quick performance.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

that chunk of metal is heavy don't let it fool u woke up sore. So what i did to press fit the studs i inserted them then i put a gang of washers and ran the nut with an impact being extra cautious, i tried doing this by hand but it took for ever and a lot of effort. I went for a sce gasket its a layered type and in the middle it has a thin metal section. Needled to say it didn't go in without a fight. And it didn't help i did this on jack stands with the bed installed, and the studs did not align properly with the case i had to slightly enforce the rubber mallet.
I still need to fill it with gear oil. this set up takes no modifiers and non synthetic. break in period using 85W140. And the to torque this i did no thradlock at 35lbs

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

I started to work on the brake lines i am running 3/16 stainless tube with 3/8-24 double flares. installed the front calipers and ran my flex line and drilled and tapped the brake bracket. I didn't finish as i am waiting on parts. As for the braking power i went with a hydro booster that operates off the power steering pump. since i am running a ford rack i needed to reduce the volume so i installed a fitting from Pure Choice to solve this, other wise the steering will be super sensitive hard to keep in a straight line. this is the part if anyone encounters this issue -6 AN Low Volume Power Steering Valve P/N 11726 @ $ 22.95 . easy to install goes on the high pressure port at the pump side

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

I mounted the calipers and ran the front flex lines and turned the steering side to side to its max seems to work but i needed to find a way to control the flex line and came up with this Billet Brake Line Clamps, my A arm tubes are 1 1/8 the clamps are 1'' if anything i will size them up to fit

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

i didn't get to far on the brakes as i am still waiting on parts, but i did install the rear flex lines and i went with these clamp style brake brackets because i wasn't to sure how the lines would end up routing since i'm building the brake system from scratch they offered more flexibility.
i also drilled and tapped a pneumatic breather vent, it also served as my fill port easier than filling it through the side.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

so i got around running the rear lines. I moved the clamps inward and out of the way if it bottoms out. at 12 o clock i used some stainless flat bar bent it 90° and installed my T fitting routing the flex line back over to the top tube and over to the frame. Still waiting on the hydroboost so i cant wrap this up. will move on to the fuel lines after the brake lines

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

So the hydroboost finally arrived. I got the Universal raw base model since its hidden under the dash. I will be eliminating the T fitting on the low pressure and tap to the power steering reservoir. i'm using -6 Fuel Cell Bulkhead and on the HB i will swap out for a 5/16-24 O-Ring to AN-6. i found this diagram showing the T method and other with T eliminated. And a wilwood prop valve with the brake light pressure switch, in my application this makes it easier.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

i got the brackets and they seem to work out. I just had to over size the cable hole.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne

the other change i did was go back to original small rectangle mirrors and original style door handles. I did get billet door handles. Back when i started this build they didnt offer billet door handles. Sux i had to invest the time in redoing all this but on the bright side i was lucky i had the truck on primer and not painted.
since then i have mowed ideas on the interior and decided i will go with the stock original look minus a few changes. post pics of the parts later.
